Near-infrared light increases ATP, extends lifespan and improves mobility in aged Drosophila melanogaster. [PDF]
Ageing is an irreversible cellular decline partly driven by failing mitochondrial integrity. Mitochondria accumulate DNA mutations and reduce ATP production necessary for cellular metabolism. This is associated with inflammation.

Viral dosing of influenza A infection reveals involvement of RIPK3 and FADD, but not MLKL
RIPK3 was reported to play an important role in the protection against influenza A virus (IAV) in vivo. Here we show that the requirement of RIPK3 for protection against IAV infection in vivo is only apparent within a limited dose range of IAV challenge.

IL-23 drives a pathogenic T cell population that induces autoimmune inflammation
Interleukin (IL)-23 is a heterodimeric cytokine composed of a unique p19 subunit, and a common p40 subunit shared with IL-12. IL-12 is important for the development of T helper (Th)1 cells that are essential for host defense and tumor suppression.

Effects of lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammation on expression of growth-associated genes by corticospinal neurons [PDF]
Background: Inflammation around cell bodies of primary sensory neurons and retinal ganglion cells enhances expression of neuronal growth-associated genes and stimulates axonal regeneration.

Histopathology of the gut in rheumatic diseases [PDF]
The gastrointestinal tract regulates the trafficking of macromolecules between the environment and the host through an epithelial barrier mechanism and is an important part of the immune system controlling the equilibrium between tolerance and immunity ...

Glucocorticoid‐induced microRNA‐511 protects against TNF by down‐regulating TNFR1
TNF is a central actor during inflammation and a well‐recognized drug target for inflammatory diseases. We found that the mouse strain SPRET/Ei, known for extreme and dominant resistance against TNF‐induced shock, displays weak expression of TNF receptor

Sphingosine-1-phosphate promotes the persistence of activated CD4 T cells in inflamed sites [PDF]
Inflammation can be protective or pathogenic depending on context and timeframe. Acute inflammation, including the accumulation of CD4 T cells, accompanies protective immune responses to pathogens, but the presence of activated CD4 T cells at sites of ...
