An Update on the H7N9 Strain of the Influenza A Virus
International Journal of Systems Biology and Biomedical Technologies, 2013Currently, humanity lives in the verge of a world-wide epidemic of the H7N9 influenza A virus. This strain has turned out to be very virulent for humans and there have been many reported casualties already in several places around the globe. Concordantly, not much is known for the H7N9 strain.

Receptor binding by an H7N9 influenza virus from humans
Nature, 2013Of the 132 people known to have been infected with H7N9 influenza viruses in China, 37 died, and many were severely ill. Infection seems to have involved contact with infected poultry. We have examined the receptor-binding properties of this H7N9 virus and compared them with those of an avian H7N3 virus.

Phylogenetic and evolutionary analysis of influenza A H7N9 virus.
The new microbiologica, 2014Recently, human infections with the novel avian-origin influenza A H7N9 virus have been reported from various provinces in China. Human infections with avian influenza A viruses are rare and may cause a wide spectrum of clinical symptoms. This is the first time that human infection with a low pathogenic avian influenza A virus has been associated with ...

H7N9 Influenza Virus Is More Virulent in Ferrets than 2009 Pandemic H1N1 Influenza Virus
Viral Immunology, 2015The novel H7N9 influenza virus has been infecting humans in China since February 2013 and with a mortality rate of about 40%. This study compared the pathogenicity of the H7N9 and 2009 pandemic H1N1 influenza viruses in a ferret model, which shows similar symptoms to those of humans infected with influenza viruses.

A sandwich ELISA for the detection of neuraminidase of avian influenza A(H7N9) virus
Journal of Virological Methods, 2017Although exhibiting no or low virulence in poultry, avian influenza virus H7N9 has caused around 1400 confirmed human infections in China with a case-fatality rate of 30% since 2013. A highly pathogenic H7N9 virus (HP-H7), with the HA antigenicity distinct from the previous, were recently detected in patients and poultry.

The H7N9 Influenza Virus in China — Changes since SARS
New England Journal of Medicine, 2013Ten years after the emergence in China of the severe acute respiratory syndrome, an avian influenza A (H7N9) virus has emerged there, causing substantial disease. But China is now better prepared to address emerging infectious diseases and potential pandemics.

[Virological characteristics of avian influenza A H7N9 virus].
Zhongguo dang dai er ke za zhi = Chinese journal of contemporary pediatrics, 2013From February 2013, a novel avian influenza A H7N9 virus causing human infection with fatal outcomes has been identified in eastern China. This avian influenza A H7N9 virus is a triple reassortant of viruses that are avian-origin only and it is low pathogenic in poultry.
