Priority Control in Communication Networks for Accuracy-Freshness Tradeoff in Real-Time Road-Traffic Information Delivery

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2017
Delivering real-time road-traffic information to the driver is a straightforward solution to the problem of road-traffic congestion. The information is more effective as it is fresh and more accurate.

Evaluation of freshness of lettuce using multi-spectroscopic sensing and machine learning

open access: yesJournal of Applied Botany and Food Quality, 2020
We aimed to develop a method to evaluate lettuce freshness changes during storage using only the surface color. In the first experiment, the surface color of one lettuce were measured continuously for 6 days.

Freshness evaluation of Sharptooth catfish (Clarias gariepinus burchell 1842) stored in ice fish box using quality index method

open access: yesCeylon Journal of Science, 2023
Fish tend to spoil quickly after harvesting during handling, transportation and storage, thus needs intervention. Nigerian Stored Products Research Institute developed an insulated box for handling, transportation and storage of fresh fish.

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Minimizing Age of Information in Slotted ALOHA With Short-Packet Communications

open access: yesIEEE Access
Age of information (AoI) has emerged as a novel metric for quantifying the freshness of information at the receiver side. This metric has found numerous applications in real-time monitoring and control systems where stale information may lead to critical

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

Modeling DECT-2020 as a Tandem Queueing System and Its Application to the Peak Age of Information Analysis

open access: yesMathematics
The Peak Age of Information (PAoI) quantifies the freshness of updates used in cyber-physical systems (CPSs), realized within the Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm, encompassing devices, networks, and control algorithms.
