Cranial cruciate ligament disease (CCLD) is a complex trait. Ten measurements were made on orthogonal distal pelvic limb radiographs of 161 pure and mixed breed dogs with, and 55 without, cranial cruciate partial or complete ligament rupture.

Infrapatellar fat pad area on knee MRI: does it correlate with the extent of knee osteoarthritis?
Background Osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee joint is a common cause of chronic disability in older adults. During the past 10 years, the infrapatellar fat pad (IPFP) has emerged as a new player in the pathogenesis of knee OA.

This study characterizes a newly‐described intervertebral fat pad (IVFP) anterior to rat IVDs, with evidence for its existence in mice and human IVDs as well. In rats, the IVFP gradually degenerated following IVD injury with changes in adipocyte size and fibrous tissue infiltration, suggesting it could play a functional role in IVD health and ...

An emerging player in knee osteoarthritis: the infrapatellar fat pad [PDF]
The role of inflammation in the development, progression, and clinical features of osteoarthritis has become an area of intense research in recent years. This led to the recognition of synovitis as an important source of inflammation in the joint and indicated that synovitis is intimately associated with pain and osteoarthritis progression.

Characterization of the Ligamentum Mucosum in the Feline and Canine Stifle
ABSTRACT In humans, the ligamentum mucosum (LM) is described as a ligamentous structure originating from the femoral intercondylar notch and inserting into the infrapatellar fat pad. Proposed clinical implications include knee stabilization, contribution to post‐operative revascularization of adjacent structures, and causation of anterior knee pain if ...

Localized nodular synovitis of the infrapatellar fat pad
We report a case of localized nodular synovitis of the infrapatellar fat pad impinging on the patellofemoral joint causing limitation of extension. Arthroscopy involved use of a superolateral portal because location of lesion hindered access via a conventional anterior portal.

Evaluation, Treatment, and Rehabilitation Implications of the Infrapatellar Fat Pad [PDF]
Context: The infrapatellar fat pad (IFP) is in the anterior knee compartment and may be a major pain generator. Evidence Acquisition: A PubMed database search using the terms Hoffas fat pad, anterior interval, and infrapatellar fat pad

ABSTRACT Osteoarthritis (OA) is a common degenerative joint disease closely associated with obesity. Adipokines secreted by adipose tissue play critical roles in disease progression. This study focuses on the adipokine leptin and investigates its relationship with knee osteoarthritis.

We successfully established a novel method for collecting synovial fluid in the murine knee joint using Tetra‐slime. Acute synovitis led to secondary cartilage degeneration in the early stage of OA, which might be attributed to the increase of MMP‐3, TNF‐α, and M1 macrophage activation in the synovium.

Smart Nanodelivery Systems for Immunometabolic Modulation in Osteoarthritis
Smart nanodelivery systems deliver therapeutic payloads across the cartilage matrix to ensure their sustained accumulation within chondrocytes at sites of injury. By targeting specific molecular targets and signaling pathways, these platforms modulate the pathological synovium‐cartilage axis to restore immunometabolic homeostasis and drive tissue ...
