The Antimicrobial Effects of the Alcoholic Extracts of Pomegranate (Punica Granatum) on the Planktonic Forms and Biofilm Structures of Six Pathogenic Bacteria

open access: yesMajallah-i Dānishgāh-i ̒Ulūm-i Pizishkī-i Bābul, 2015
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE In traditional medicine, pomegranate is used for the treatment of intestinal worms and diarrhea. This study aimed to examine the antibacterial activities of pomegranate extracts on biofilm structures and planktonic forms of six ...

Cheburator Software for Automatically Calculating Drug Inhibitory Concentrations from In Vitro Screening Assays

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
In the process of new cancer drug development, as the first step of their assessment, their activities are usually studied in vitro against a panel of cancer cell lines.

Impact of the co-culture of Saccharomyces cerevisiae–Oenococcus oenion malolactic fermentation and partial characterization of a yeast-derived inhibitory peptidic fraction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The present study was aimed to evaluate the impact of the co-culture on the output of malolactic fermentation and to further investigate the reasons of the antagonism exerted by yeasts towards bacteria during sequential cultures.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Convulsant actions of 4-aminopyridine on the guinea-pig olfactory cortex slice [PDF]

open access: yes, 1982
The effects of bath-applied 4-aminopyridine on neurones and extracellular potassium and calcium concentrations were recorded in slices of guinea-pig olfactory cortex. Neurones were orthodromically activated by stimulating the lateral olfactory tract.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Compounds from Extracts with Toxicity against the Fish Pathogenic Bacterium

open access: yesNatural Product Communications, 2016
The pond-raised channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus ) industry in the United States of America can incur losses of over a $100 million annually due to bacterial diseases including columnaris disease caused by Flavobacterium columnare.

The Role of Bile in the Regulation of Exocrine Pancreatic Secretion [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
As early as 1926 Mellanby (1) was able to show that introduction of bile into the duodenum of anesthetized cats produces a copious flow of pancreatic juice.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Inhibitory Power of Moringa Leaf Extract (Moringa oleifera L.) Concentration of 50%, 75% And 100% On Mix Bacterial Growth of Root Canal

open access: yesInterdental Jurnal Kedokteran Gigi (IJKG)
Introduction: Necrotic teeth can be maintained with root canal treatment, through three critical stages, namely preparation, sterilization, and filling. Sterilization is one of the critical stages that must be carried out during treatment, and it aims to eliminate as many pathogenic microorganisms as possible through irrigation and medicine.
