Identification of responders/non-responders to 5-fluorouracil based on individual 50% inhibitory area under the concentration curve of 5-fluorouracil obtained with collagen gel droplet-embedded culture-drug sensitivity test in colorectal cancer

open access: yesOncology Letters, 2011
We previously reported the 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) sensitivity of cancer cells obtained from colorectal cancer (CRC) patients using the collagen gel droplet-embedded culture-drug sensitivity test (CD-DST). Multiple drug concentrations and contact durations, and the area under the concentration curve (AUC) and growth inhibition rate (IR) were combined ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Inhibition of safflower seed meal on quorum sensing of Chromobacterium violaceum ATCC12472

open access: yesSiliao yanjiu, 2021
The experiment was to study the inhibitory effect of safflower seed meal on quorum sensing by taking the violacein produced by quorum sensing related Chromobacterium violaceum ATCC12472 as the evaluation index.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Inhibition of dengue virus serotype 2 in Vero cells with [Cu(2,4,5-triphenyl-1H-imidazole)2(H2O)2].Cl2

open access: yesInfectious Disease Reports, 2020
Dengue fever and dengue hemorrhagic fever are transmitted to humans by the Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes, with an observed 30-fold increase in global incidence the last 50 years.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.
