Steroid injections in musculoskeletal conditions and COVID infection rates: What is the impact on positive rates following the injection?

open access: yesPhysiotherapy, 2022
AbstractBackground and AimTherapeutic glucocorticosteroid injections are commonly utilised to manage musculoskeletal (MSK) complaints. Following the SARS‐CoV‐2 pandemic, national guidelines advised against their use due to potential immunosuppressant effects. The aim of the study was to determine whether steroid injections for MSK conditions impacts on

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Numerical Investigation of Influence of In-Situ Stress Ratio, Injection Rate and Fluid Viscosity on Hydraulic Fracture Propagation Using a Distinct Element Approach

open access: yesEnergies, 2016
Numerical simulation is very useful for understanding the hydraulic fracturing mechanism. In this paper, we simulate the hydraulic fracturing using the distinct element approach, to investigate the effect of some critical parameters on hydraulic ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

A novel method for the quantitative characterization of the simultaneous plasticizing and filling performance in ultrasonic plasticization micro injection molding

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2021
A novel method is proposed for the quantitative characterization of the unique simultaneous plasticizing and filling phenomenon in ultrasonic plasticization micro-injection molding (UPMIM). The injection rate is redefined as the mass flow rate during the

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Identification of a Shiga toxin A‐derived peptide internalized into Gb3 receptor‐bearing cells via interaction with the Shiga toxin B subunit

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The process of internalization of the Shiga toxin A subunit via formation of a complex with the Shiga toxin B subunit, which specifically binds to the Gb3 receptor. The peptide is designed to act as a carrier of drugs into cancer cells. Here, we explored the potential of peptides derived from the catalytic A subunit of Shiga toxin (STxA) to be drug ...

A zero-dimensional model to simulate injection rate from first generation common rail diesel injectors under thermodynamic diagnosis

open access: yesEnergy, 2018
The injection rate curve is an important input parameter in the thermodynamic diagnosis and in the predictive models, and it can also be used to simulate fuel sprays under different operating conditions.
