Two novel approaches for photometric redshift estimation based on SDSS and 2MASS databases

open access: yes, 2007
We investigate two training-set methods: support vector machines (SVMs) and Kernel Regression (KR) for photometric redshift estimation with the data from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 5 and Two Micron All Sky Survey databases.

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Testing some f(R,T) gravity models from energy conditions

open access: yes, 2012
We consider $f(R, T)$ theory of gravity, where $R$ is the curvature scalar and $T$ the trace of the energy momentum tensor. Attention is attached to the special case, $f(R, T)= R+2f(T)$ and two expressions are assumed for the function $f(T)$, $\frac{a_1T^

A simple method of constructing binary black hole initial data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
By applying a parabolic-hyperbolic formulation of the constraints and superposing Kerr-Schild black holes, a simple method is introduced to initialize time evolution of binary systems. As the input parameters are essentially the same as those used in the

Interrogating the immune landscape of microsatellite stable RAS‐mutated colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
COLOSSUS project RAS‐mutated MSS colon cancer study explored transcriptomics and immune cell density by immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunoscore (IS), ISIC/TuLIS scores, mutation counts, and detected different prevalences but similar microenvironment composition across immune markers with clinical relevance for future immunotherapy combination ...

Revisiting $1^{-+}$ and $0^{++}$ light hybrids from Monte-Carlo based QCD sum rules

open access: yes, 2013
In this paper, we re-analyze the $1^{-+}$ and $0^{++}$ light hybrids from QCD sum rules with a Monte-Carlo based uncertainty analysis. With $30\%$ uncertainties in the accepted central values for QCD condensates and other input parameters, we obtain a ...

Comparison of Theoretical Starburst Photoionisation Models for Optical Diagnostics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
We study and compare different examples of stellar evolutionary synthesis input parameters used to produce photoionisation model grids using the MAPPINGS V modelling code.

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

Solar Model Parameters and Direct Measurements of Solar Neutrino Fluxes

open access: yes, 2006
We explore a novel possibility of determining the solar model parameters, which serve as input in the calculations of the solar neutrino fluxes, by exploiting the data from direct measurements of the fluxes.
