Modeling Trajectories Obtained from External Sensors for Location Prediction via NLP Approaches

open access: yesSensors, 2022
Representation learning seeks to extract useful and low-dimensional attributes from complex and high-dimensional data. Natural language processing (NLP) was used to investigate the representation learning models to extract words’ feature vectors using ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

BIGapp: A user‐friendly genomic tool kit identified quantitative trait loci for creeping rootedness in alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.)

open access: yesThe Plant Genome
Alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) is a globally vital forage crop valued for its perennial growth and multiple annual harvests. A breeding effort is underway to improve the crop for productivity and persistence against biotic and abiotic stresses using ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Investigating visual analogies for visual insight problems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Much research has focused on the impact of analogies in insight problem solving, but less work has investigated how the visual analogies for insight are actually constructed.

No new Insights [PDF]

open access: yesDeutsches Ärzteblatt international, 2014
Introducing, the authors explain that based on evidence from studies, theophylline is of little benefit in COPD and associated with risks. At the same time, they state that the interesting question cannot be clarified “conclusively” with their study so that “further … studies of routine data are needed”.
