Effects of fiber properties on shrinkage of fiber/PMMA composite-based bone cements

open access: yes, 2010
Fiber/polymethylmetacrylate (PMMA) composite bone cements were prepared with various fiber types (polyester and kevlar) in %1, 2 and 3 volumes. The shrinkage of the fiber/PMMA composite patterns were then calculated among 150 days. Results indicated that

Physicochemical and functional properties of carboxymethylated insoluble dietary fiber of Lycium barbarum seed dreg

open access: yesFood Chemistry: X
Lycium barbarum seed dregs (LBSDs) were used for carboxymethyl modification, resulting in three degree of substitution samples (DS). Based on the substitution degree, samples were designated as low degree of substitution insoluble dietary fiber (L-IDF ...

Role of Insoluble Fiber on Gizzard Activity in Layers

open access: yesJournal of Applied Poultry Research, 2005
SUMMARY Effect of access to wood shavings on gizzard activity was examined for birds fed pelleted wheat and oat diets with or without whole cereal inclusion. Layers on litter floor fed wheat diets with access to coarse wood shavings showed up to 60% higher weight of the gizzard and its content than caged layers fed the same diets without access to wood

Clustomesogen Showing Sub‐Zero Liquid Crystal Properties: Supramolecular Assembly Between Cs2[Mo6Ii8(OCOC2F5)6] and Hexaethylenoxide Containing Mesogenic Dimers

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Associating a red‐NIR phosphorescent octahedral hexanuclear molybdenum cluster compound with hexaethyleneoxide chains bearing mesogenic units on both ends leads to an emissive hybrid liquid crystal showing mesomorphism on a very unusual temperature range down to −25°C.

Soluble and Insoluble Dietary Fiber in Cooked Common Bean (Phaseolus Vulgaris) Seeds [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
The common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) requires cooking for extended periods of time prior to consumption. In this investigation both quantitative and microstructural changes in common bean dietary fiber as a result of cooking were examined.

Stimuli‐Responsive Hierarchical Structuring Controls Survival and Programs Hydrogelation of Supramolecular Metallofibers

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Aqueous Zn(II) Salphen metallofibers decorated with PNIPAM undergo reversible, multi‐stimuli‐responsive hierarchical bundling. This higher‐order structuring kinetically stabilizes the otherwise fragile assemblies against dilution, acidic hydrolysis, and transmetallation, enables selective sorting of responsive fibers, and programs hydrogelation at ...

Food intake regulation in men: Role of hyperinsulinemia and insoluble fiber [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This research examined the hypothesis that biomarkers of food intake regulation in men are affected by hyperinsulinemia and insoluble fiber. The primary objectives were to determine (1) the effect of hyperinsulinemia on food intake and plasma ...

Fiber Wars: Are mixed soluble and insoluble fibers the answer for irritable bowel syndrome?

open access: yes@Gijournal, 2021
Fiber is known to exert various favorable effects on the gastrointestinal tract via modulation of the microbiota, formation of metabolites (such as short chain fatty acids), altered motility, and manipulation of stool form. While there has been tremendous interest in utilizing fiber in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome, results have been ...
