Hypertrehalosaemic and hyperlipaemic responses to adipokinetic hormone in fifth larval instar locusts, Locusta migratoria

open access: yes, 1984
In fifth instar larvae of Locusta migratoria the haemolymph lipid concentration is elevated after injection of adipokinetic hormone (AKH). This hyperlipaemic response in larvae remains substantially lower than in adults; over 75% of the mobilized lipid ...

Defensive responses by a social caterpillar are tailored to different predators and change with larval instar and group size [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Gregariousness in animals is widely accepted as a behavioral adaptation for protection from predation. However, predation risk and the effectiveness of a prey’s defense can be a function of several other factors, including predator species and prey size ...

Host‐associated chemical cues mediating host‐finding behaviour in the larval ectoparasitoid Cephalonomia tarsalis

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Host‐associated volatiles mediate host location in Cephalonomia tarsalis, with faecal odours from fourth‐instar larvae, particularly 1‐pentadecene, attracting females and supporting the biological control of stored‐product pest beetles. Abstract BACKGROUND Understanding how parasitoids locate their hosts is essential for improving the effectiveness of ...

The efficiency of Paecilomyce farinosus as biocontrol to larve stage on second ad sixith instar larve of Trogoderma granarium (Everts)

open access: yesمجلة بغداد للعلوم, 2013
The present study was conducted to determine the pathogenicity of Paecilomyces farinosus as biocontrol agents against Tragoderma granarium (khapra) under laboratory conditions with three concentrations ( 2.8 x 108 , 2.8 x 106 ,2.8 x104 spores/ ml). The

PROTEIN ANALYSIS OF SAGO GRUB BASED ON INSTAR LARVAL STAGES

open access: yes, 2017
Human protein needs could be obtained from animal or vegetable. Sago grub (sago worm), a larva stage of Sago Palm Weevil (Rhyncophorus ferrigineus), has been usually consumed by local communities in Luwu Raya as protein source.

Patterns of gene expression from single-cell RNA-Seq of the third instar larval testes

open access: yes, 2020
Patterns of gene expression from single-cell RNA-Seq of the third instar larval testes. For each gene we plot the Uniform Manifold Approximation and Projection (UMAP) colored by Z-score value (-3, 3).

Evaluating predatory arthropods for the biological control of the invasive Thrips parvispinus (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) in greenhouse sweet pepper

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
This study shows that Orius laevigatus, alone or with other predators, consistently achieved the highest suppression of Thrips parvispinus and improved plant productivity. Franklinothrips vespiformis coexisted with O. laevigatus, suggesting compatibility, while Amblyseius swirskii declined, indicating incompatibility. Individually, F. vespiformis and A.

Determination of Larval Instars of Dastarcus helophoroides (Coleoptera: Bothrideridae) Using Head Capsule Width Frequency Distribution

open access: yesInsects
Long-horned beetles are among the major insect pests that can cause significant economic and ecological damage globally. The control of long-horned beetles is crucial to sustain the forest ecosystem.

Bt agave: why it is time to explore a new biotechnological frontier

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Drylands cover 41% of Earth, requiring sustainable crops. Agave, drought‐ and heat‐adapted, offers high‐value products with low water needs. Pests limit yield, yet Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) Cry proteins, successful in other plants, remain unexploited in Agave.

Volatiles from Different Instars of Honeybee Worker Larvae and Their Food

open access: yesInsects, 2019
(E)-β-Ocimene was the only volatile chemical found to be emitted by whole, live worker larvae of Apis mellifera L. when sampling in the vapor phase.
