Mechanism design of an insulator cleaning robot for suspension insulator strings

open access: yes2015 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Biomimetics (ROBIO), 2015
Cleaning contaminated insulators is an effective way to protect power transmission lines from accidental power outages caused by flashovers due to wet polluted insulators. Traditional cleaning methods are risky, inefficient, expensive and labor-intensive.

Research on the Detection of Faulty Insulator Strings

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Research, 2011
A series of experiments on the corona current pulse appearing on insulators under various contamination conditions with AC voltage of different amplitude are described. The corona current pulses were found to follow the Gaussian distribution and can be used to distinguish the faulty insulators from normal insulator strings in transmission line.

Impacts of corona rings on the insulation performance of composite polymer insulator strings

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation, 2015
Corona rings can improve the insulation performance of insulator strings because of their electric field grading property or can decrease the insulation performance due to their arc clearance reduction property. The resulting insulation performance of the string which is under the influence of those two conflicting effects depends on the corona ring ...

The influence of low and zero resistance insulators on the voltage distribution of insulator strings

2018 13th IEEE Conference on Industrial Electronics and Applications (ICIEA), 2018
Under the long-term effects of electrical load and nature environment factors, the insulators' insulation properties will gradually decline, and the low and zero resistance insulators will appear in the insulator strings. As the existence of low and zero resistance insulators could cause great danger to the safe operation of power system. The influence

Mobile robot for inspection of porcelain insulator strings

Proceedings of the 2014 3rd International Conference on Applied Robotics for the Power Industry, 2014
We transferred an insulator inspection robot from Korea Electric Power Corporation. The robot can inspect suspension insulator strings and tension insulator strings. And it can be operated at the highest voltage level of 345kV live-line. It can measure the resistance and the distribution voltage of the insulator, then judge the status of the insulator ...
