Flashover Performance of HVDC Iced Insulator Strings
IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation, 2007Based on artificial icing test results, it was found that the DC flashover voltage of iced insulator strings was non-linear with different string lengths. An experimental formula of flashover voltage on iced insulators of different string lengths is introduced in this paper.

Punctured insulator examination of a string insulator
2005 IEEE Russia Power Tech, 2005This paper represents a punctured insulator detection method of a string insulator using a corona camera which can detect the ultraviolet light (partly corona phenomena) obtained from the high electric field stress of air around the tested insulators.

Switching-Surge Insulation Level of Porcelain Insulator Strings
IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1964A quantitative research report is made here, based on tests of EHV (extra-high-voltage) insulator strings. Impulse, switching-surge, and a-c tests on vertical, horizontal, and 45-degree V-strings were carried out, using both positive and negative unidirectional impulses and 250- to 3,250-?sec (microsecond) switching surges.

Influence of attachment of insulating string on AC flashover strength of insulator
Proceedings of the Twenty-First Symposium on Electrical Insulating Materials, 2005The relation between ac flashover voltage (ACFOV) and an attachment of nylon string on the insulator surface is studied in air by using a PMMA insulator which has a backside electrode. The measurements show that the ACFOV is decreased by the attachment of the string.

Investigation of single unit flashovers in HVDC insulator strings
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1996In HVDC transmission lines, a special phenomenon, so-called single unit flashover, is observed under some special conditions. Only one or two insulator units repeat flashovers, not resulting in an overall flashover along the string. However, higher magnitudes of audible noise, radio and television interferences may give a serious problem.

Identifying faulty insulator strings by detecting insulator corona pulse current
POWERCON '98. 1998 International Conference on Power System Technology. Proceedings (Cat. No.98EX151), 2002The resolution to identify faulty insulator strings by detecting insulator corona current pulse was investigated in our laboratory. The influences of some facts on the detection resolution were also discussed, including the characteristics of insulators close to line, the resistance of faulty insulators, the locations of the faulty insulators, and the ...

A series of tests on suspension insulators For power transmission lines is described this paper, and results are given which should be of interest to design engineers. The tests made included long-time Fatigue tests, the distribution of voltage over the insulator string, and the flashover voltage when some of the units are electrically defective.

Reduction of AC flashover strength by the attachment of insulating strings on the insulator surfaces
Electrical Engineering in Japan, 1992AbstractAC flashover voltage in air (ACFOV) decreases when nylon string is attached on the PMMA insulator surface which has a backside electrode. The decrease in ACFOV by the attachment is explained by the generation and the propagation of the negative surface leader along the string.
