DEVELOPMENT OF SOFTWARE FOR SELECTING INSULATORS AND INSULATOR STRINGS
Proceedings CIRED24The role of overhead distribution lines for 10 kV, 20 kV and 35 kV in the functioning of the distribution system is fundamental. One of the parts of the overhead lines consists of insulators with equipment that have the role of separating the parts of the lines that are under voltage from those that are not and accept the weight of the conductor in all

Evaluation of transmission line insulator for I-Type string insulator design
2016 IEEE International Conference on Power and Energy (PECon), 2016Glazed glass cap and pin insulators that have been removed from the transmission line, have electrical characteristics ensuring them to be reused and reinstalled on lower voltage distribution level lines. The electrical properties determination involving insulator resistance, self-capacitance, corona inception voltage and flashover voltage were ...

The sensitivity of identify faulty insulator string by detecting insulator corona current
Proceedings of 1998 International Symposium on Electrical Insulating Materials. 1998 Asian International Conference on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation. 30th Symposium on Electrical Insulating Materials (IEEE Cat. No.98TH8286), 2002Some basic study indicated that detecting insulator corona pulse current could be a way to inspect for the faulty insulator string in service. The basic principle of identifying the faulty insulators in the string will cause a high voltage drop across good insulators due to their low resistance, producing active corona discharges on good insulators ...

Potential Distribution across a String of Insulators
International Journal of Electrical Engineering & Education, 1974The problem of determining the potential distribution across a string of insulators is solved by using the difference equation approach. Explicit expressions for the potentials are given in series as well as closed forms, and their variations with the parameters are displayed in the form of graphs.

Electric stress grading of insulator strings
Electrical Engineering, 1960THE component units of an insulator string do not carry equal voltages when the string is in service, because of stray capacitances from each unit of the string to line and to ground. The voltage across a particular unit in a string may be determined by placing a calibrated spark gap across that unit and noting the total string voltage required to make

Impact Loads on Tension Composite Multi-Strings of Insulator After a Single String Breaks
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2022The dynamic impact load after a single insulator of a tension composite multi-strings of insulator (MSI) set has failed is a key factor that should be considered in design. In this paper, an experimental method to obtain the dynamic tensile impact factor (DTIF) is established by considering a typical double-strings set, which is commonly used in ...

A new climbing robot for suspension insulator strings
2016 4th International Conference on Applied Robotics for the Power Industry (CARPI), 2016A novel robot system is presented in this paper, which is used to climb the suspension insulator strings mounted on the overhead wire. Only two motors are enough for the robot to cross an insulator with the cable driving mechanism and the stretching platform in a worm-like form. The mobility and security of the robot are analyzed.

The sixty-cycle flashover of long suspension insulator strings
Journal of the A.I.E.E., 1929This is a study of the 60-cycle flashover of strings up to voltages of 1100 kv., undertaken at the Ryan High-Voltage Laboratory, Stanford University. Investigation was made of the variations in flashover voltage for similar horizontal and vertical strings, with and without shields and tower members. An attempt has been made to correlate these flashover

III — Designs and economics of suspension insulator strings
Electrical Engineering, 1932IN THE PAST the effectiveness of transmission line insulation has been judged almost entirely by its 60-cycle flashover characteristics. On this basis the wide changes in spacing and diameter of suspension insulator units have affected the over-all flashover values but little.

Temperature distribution on polluted insulator string model
1982 IEEE International Conference on Electrical Insulation, 1982The surface temperature of energized, wetted by steam fog, polluted insulator string model was measured and scanned from the instant of voltage application using an infra-red camera. Visicorder oscillographs were used to trace and record the leakage currents.
