Regulatory Actions of Insulin-like Growth Factor-binding Proteins
Trends in Endocrinology & Metabolism, 1998The six insulin-like growth factor-binding proteins (IGFBPs) are important regulators of insulin-like growth factor (IGF) action. Circulating high molecular weight complexes that contain IGF and IGFBP-3 restrict IGF bioavailability, and excess IGFBPs inhibit IGF action by forming biologically inactive complexes.

Role of Growth-Hormone and Insulin-Like Growth-Factor-Binding Proteins
Hormone Research, 2008Some peptide hormones are associated with specific, high-affinity plasma proteins. The major binding protein (BP) for growth hormone (GH) in humans is a circulating fragment of the GH membrane receptor, consisting of the hydrophilic, extracellular portion of that transmembrane glycoportein.

Functional Role of Insulin-Like Growth Factor Binding Proteins
Hormone Research, 2009Insulin-like growth factors (IGF-I, IGF-II) are important regulators of cell division and differentiation. In their free form, IGFs form a complex with specific binding proteins (IGFBPs), six of which have now been characterized. These IGFBPs differ in their ability to bind IGF-I and/or IGF-II, and, depending on their location and metabolic ...

Heterogeneity of insulin-like growth factor binding proteins in swine
Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology, 1989Proteins in porcine amniotic fluid and sera (both fetal and adult) were separated electrophoretically in sodium dodecyl sulfate-containing polyacrylamide gels and transferred to nitrocellulose sheets. Western blots were analysed for proteins that would bind (a) radioiodinated insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) and (b) antibodies to a rat insulin-like

Insulin-like growth factor binding protein (IGFBP) signalling
Growth Hormone & IGF Research, 2004Insulin-like growth factor-I and -II (IGF-I and -II) are peptides that regulate cell metabolism, growth, differentiation and survival according to physiological requirements and the tissue type involved. They bind to two transmembrane receptors, the type I and type II IGF receptors (IGF-IR and IGF-IIR), although their cellular action is mediated via ...

Insulin-like growth factor binding proteins 4-6
Best Practice & Research Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 2015Insulin-like growth factor binding proteins (IGFBPs) 4-6 have important roles as modulators of IGF actions. IGFBP-4 and IGFBP-6 predominantly inhibit IGF actions, whereas IGFBP-5 may enhance these actions under some circumstances. IGFBP-6 is unique among the IGFBPs for its marked IGF-II binding preference.

Insulin-like growth factor-binding proteins and bone metabolism
American Journal of Physiology-Endocrinology and Metabolism, 2008Insulin-like growth factor-binding proteins (IGFBPs) are important regulators of bone metabolism. However, their precise roles are not fully understood, since IGFBPs can have both enhancing and inhibiting effects on IGF action, depending on context and posttranslational modifications, as well as IGF-independent effects.

Insulin-Like Growth Factor Binding Proteins in the Nervous System
1991Insulin-like growth factor binding proteins (IGFBPs) are a group of discrete but structurally related polypeptides,1–3 which bind and modulate the biological activity of insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) I and II.4–9 Since available evidence suggests that IGF-I and -II participate in growth, metabolism, differentiation, and injury repair,10–24 to name
