Binding of mutants of human insulin-like growth factor II to insulin-like growth factor binding proteins 1-6

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1993
A family of six specific insulin-like growth factor binding proteins (IGFBPs) modulates the biological actions of the insulin-like growth factors, IGF-I and IGF-II. In the present study, we determined the binding affinity of purified human IGFBPs 1-6 for recombinant human IGF-II mutants whose binding to IGF-I, IGF-II/mannose 6-phosphate, and insulin ...

Extracellular Vesicles Modulation by an Adiponectin Receptor Agonist Provides Cardioprotection for Myocardial Ischemic Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that ALY688, a drug mimicking the heart‐protective hormone adiponectin, reduces myocardial ischemia injury. ALY688 increases the production of extracellular vesicles, which carry protective cargo including adiponectin itself.

Packed for Ossification: High‐Density Bioprinting of hPDC Spheroids in HAMA Toward Endochondral Ossification

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Human periosteum‐derived cell spheroids bioprinted at high density within a hyaluronic acid matrix promote fusion and hypertrophic cartilage formation in vitro. Early encapsulation enhances spheroid interaction and matrix maturation, generating scalable cartilage templates intended for endochondral bone regeneration.

Evaluating Serum Insulin-Like Growth Factor 1 and Insulin-Like Growth Factor Binding Protein 3 as Markers in Prostate Cancer Diagnosis

open access: yesThe International Journal of Biological Markers, 2016
Background Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) lacks specificity and sensitivity in discriminating prostate cancer (PCa) from benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) when the total PSA (tPSA) level is between 4 and 10 ng/mL.

Regulation of Phosphoenolpyruvate Carboxykinase and Insulin-like Growth Factor-binding Protein-1 Gene Expression by Insulin

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2000
Winged helix/forkhead (Fox) transcription factors have been implicated in the regulation of a number of insulin-responsive genes. The insulin response elements (IREs) of the phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK) and insulin-like growth factor-binding

Stable Protein‐Based G‐Quadruplex‐Derived Supramolecular Bioinks as Tunable ECM‐Mimetic Constructs Assembled by Combining Non‐Covalent and Covalent Strategies

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Harnessing the synergistic interplay of supramolecular self‐assembly, under macromolecular crowding conditions, and enzymatic‐mediated covalent crosslinking toward a stable protein‐based G‐quadruplex‐derived supramolecular bioink. This bioinspired strategy enables the biofabrication of complex and tunable ECM‐mimetic constructs, providing a platform ...

Turning Unpredictable Biomolecule Adsorption to Controlled Corona Formation: Focus on Carbon Nanomaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Controlling the protein corona formation onto carbon nanomaterials (CNMs) enhances their functionalities as platforms for cancer theranostics. Here, we reviewed the effects of the intrinsic and acquired properties of CNMs on protein corona formation, the consequent biological and toxicological outcomes, and the strategies to reshape corona formation ...
