Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Implied Integrality in Mixed-Integer Optimization

open access: yes
Implied-integer detection is a well-known presolving technique that is used by many Mixed-Integer Linear Programming solvers. Informally, a variable is said to be implied integer if its integrality is enforced implicitly by integrality of other variables

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Improving integrality gaps via Chvátal-Gomory rounding

open access: yes, 2010
In this work, we study the strength of the Chvátal-Gomory cut generating procedure for several hard optimization problems. For hypergraph matching on k-uniform hypergraphs, we show that using Chvátal-Gomory cuts of low rank can reduce the integrality ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

An improved integrality gap for asymmetric TSP paths

open access: yes, 2013
The Asymmetric Traveling Salesperson Path (ATSPP) problem is one where, given an asymmetric metric space (V,d) with specified vertices s and t, the goal is to find an s-t path of minimum length that passes through all the vertices in V.

Gravitational couplings in N $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 2 heterotic compactifications with Wilson lines

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2020
In this paper we compute the gravitational couplings of the heterotic string compactified on (K3 × T 2)/ℤ N and E 8 × E 8 and predict the Gopakumar Vafa invariants of the dual Calabi Yau manifold in presence of Wilson lines.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.
