Parametric Analysis of Spiking Neurons in 16 nm Fin Field‐Effect Transistor Technology

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
Energy efficient computing has driven a shift toward brain‐inspired neuromorphic hardware. This study explores the design of three distinct silicon neuron topologies implemented in 16 nm fin field‐Effect transistor technology. While the Axon‐Hillock design achieves gigahertz throughput, its functional fragility persists. The Morris–Lecar model captures

“It Is Much Safer to Be Sparse than Connected”: Safe Control of Robotic Swarm Density Dynamics with PDE Optimization with State Constraints

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This paper proposes a novel control framework to ensure safety of a robotic swarm. A feedback optimization controller is capable of driving the swarm toward a target density while keeping risk‐zone exposure below a safety threshold. Theory and experiments show how safety is more effectively achieved for sparsely connected swarms.

Framing Coherence Across EU Policies Towards Integrated Wildfire Risk Management and Nature-Based Solutions

open access: yes
Wildfire risk has been exacerbated across Europe by climate change favoring more damaging and severe wildfire events. This evolving wildfire risk context interacts with a broad landscape of EU policies including those on nature conservation, forestry ...

Gate‐Align‐SED: Semi‐Supervised Sound Event Detection via Adaptive Feature Gating and Cross‐Task Alignment in Situation Awareness

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Overview of the proposed Gate‐Align‐SED, including two stages of training: (1) Mean‐Teacher SSL Training; and (2) Enhancer Model Training. In complex real‐world environments such as disaster monitoring, effective sound event detection (SED) is often hindered by the presence of noise and limited labeled data.

Integrated spacial fire and forest management planning

open access: yes, 2010
Forest management planners usually treat potential fire loss estimates as exogenous parameters in their timber production planning processes. When they do so, they do not account for the fact that forest access road construction, timber harvesting, and ...

The use of fire to preserve biodiversity under novel fire regimes

open access: yes
Novel fire regimes are emerging worldwide and pose substantial challenges to biodiversity conservation. Addressing these challenges and mitigating their impacts on biodiversity will require developing a wide range of fire management practices.

Exploiting Ferroelectric and Spintronic Dynamics for Neural Network Computation

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Ferroelectric and spintronic devices, relying on the control of polarization and magnetization, offer intrinsically fast, durable, energy‐efficient, and low‐latency building blocks for analog in‐memory computing. The hysteretic dynamics of an order parameter are leveraged to provide nonvolatile, multistate memory and nonlinear switching. Brain‐inspired

Developing an integrated trust and reputation model for open multi-agent systems

open access: yes, 2004
Trust and reputation are central to effective interactions in open multi-agent systems in which agents, that are owned by a variety of stakeholders, can enter and leave the system at any time.

How cold is too cold? A theoretical analysis of the optimal trigger for index insurance for frost damage to crops

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract Crop insurance is undoubtedly an extremely valuable element in protecting agricultural businesses, but in many cases standard indemnity‐based products have had very low uptake due to high transaction costs elevating premiums to unaffordable levels.
