Mid-IR heterogeneous silicon photonics [PDF]
In this paper we discuss silicon-based photonic integrated circuit technology for applications beyond the telecommunication wavelength range. Silicon-on-insulator and germanium-on-silicon passive waveguide circuits are described, as well as the ...

Highly-chirped Bragg gratings for integrated silica spectrometers
A blazed chirped Bragg grating in a planar silica waveguide device was used to create an integrated diffractive element for a spectrometer. The grating diffracts light from a waveguide and creates a wavelength dependent focus in a manner similar to a bulk diffraction grating spectrometer.

Photonic THz mixers based on iron-doped InGaAs embedded in a plasmonic microcavity
We present an optoelectronic mixer for the terahertz (THz) frequency-domain based on an iron-doped InGaAs layer integrated in a plasmonic microcavity. We show that this structure, under 1550-nm-wavelength illumination, allows for more than 70% absorption

Integrated nano-opto-electro-mechanical sensor for spectrometry and nanometrology
Fully integratable spectrometers have trade-offs between size and resolution. Here, the authors present a nano-opto-electro-mechanical system where the functionalities of transduction, actuation and detection are fully integrated, resulting in an ultra ...

Dual Tunable MZIs Stationary-Wave Integrated Fourier Transform Spectrum Detection
In order to resolve spectral alias due to under sampling in traditional stationary-wave integrated Fourier transform (SWIFT) spectrometers, an all-on-chip waveguide based on dual tunable Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) stationary-wave integrated ...

Metamaterial metal-based bolometers
We demonstrate metamaterial metal-based bolometers, which take advantage of resonant absorption in that a spectral and/or polarization filter can be built into the bolometer. Our proof-of-principle gold-nanostructure-based devices operate around 1.5 \mum
