An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Providing operating modes for Coriolis vibration gyroscopes with low-Q resonators

open access: yesНаучно-технический вестник информационных технологий, механики и оптики
Coriolis vibration gyroscopes are a class of promising inertial primary information sensors that respond to the rotation of the resonator base through Coriolis inertial forces arising in the vibrating shell.

The National, Civic, and Ethnic Identity of Russian Young People in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia): Perception Dynamics

open access: yesСоциологическая наука и социальная практика, 2019
This paper studies the levels and nature of the national, civic, and ethnic identity of Russian young people in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). We analyze identity dynamics and nature, using representative data from large-scale surveys conducted in 2012

Multilevel (ML-ICLV) & Single Level Integrated Discrete Choice and Latent Variable (ICLV) Models Using Alternative Latent Structures' Conceptualizations [PDF]

open access: yes, 1951
The aim of the present endeavor is to experiment on integrating discrete choice with latent variable (ICVL) models using alternative factorial structures’ conceptualizations and do so at both Single Level (Level 0) and Multilevel (ML-ICVL).

Enhanced Welding Operator Quality Performance Measurement: Work Experience-Integrated Bayesian Prior Determination

open access: yes, 2019
Measurement of operator quality performance has been challenging in the construction fabrication industry. Among various causes, the learning effect is a significant factor, which needs to be incorporated in achieving a reliable operator quality ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Integrating Signaling Pathways with Transcription Factor Networks—On the Trail of Sisyphus?

open access: yesBiomolecules
In the context of health and disease research, cells use signaling pathways that transduce stimuli from the extracellular environment to modulate intracellular gene expression via the activity of transcription factors and cofactors (coactivators and/or ...

Non-Gaussian Discriminative Factor Models via the Max-Margin Rank-Likelihood

open access: yes, 2015
We consider the problem of discriminative factor analysis for data that are in general non-Gaussian. A Bayesian model based on the ranks of the data is proposed. We first introduce a new {\em max-margin} version of the rank-likelihood.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...
