The role of intensity modulated radiotherapy in gynecological radiotherapy: Present and future [PDF]
This manuscript reviews the English language literature on the use of intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) for gynecologic malignancies, focusing on the treatment cervical cancer.Radiation therapy plays a key role in both definitive and adjuvant treatment of these patients, although efforts continue to minimize acute and chronic toxicity.

Searching standard parameters for volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) of prostate cancer [PDF]
Background Since December 2009 a new VMAT planning system tool is available in Oncentra® MasterPlan v3.3 (Nucletron B.V.). The purpose of this study was to work out standard parameters for the optimization of prostate cancer.

Radiotherapy Dosimetry: A Review on Open-Source Optimizer [PDF]
Radiotherapy dosimetry plays a crucial role in optimizing treatment plans for cancer patients. In this study, we investigate the performance of a dozen standard state-of-the-art open-source optimizers for radiotherapy dosimetry. Our evaluation includes the use of TGG119 benchmark cases as well as one real case obtained from the Institute du Cancer de ...

Adjuvant radiotherapy is the standard treatment after breast-conserving surgery. According to meta-analyses, adjuvant 3d-conventional irradiation reduces the risk of local recurrence and thereby improves long-term survival by 5–10%.

Simplifying intensity-modulated radiotherapy plans with fewer beam angles for the treatment of oropharyngeal carcinoma. [PDF]
The first aim of the present study was to investigate the feasibility of using fewer beam angles to improve delivery efficiency for the treatment of oropharyngeal cancer (OPC) with inverse-planned intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IP-IMRT).

Early biomarkers related to secondary primary cancer risk in radiotherapy treated prostate cancer patients: IMRT versus IMAT [PDF]
PurposeTo investigate whether rotational techniques (Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy – VMAT) are associated with a higher risk for secondary primary malignancies compared to step-and-shoot Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (ss-IMRT).

Monitor units are not predictive of neutron dose for high-energy IMRT
Background Due to the substantial increase in beam-on time of high energy intensity-modulated radiotherapy (>10 MV) techniques to deliver the same target dose compared to conventional treatment techniques, an increased dose of scatter radiation ...
