Synthesis and antibacterial activity of aminosugar-functionalized intercalating agents

Carbohydrate Research, 2010
A series of previously reported amino sugar-functionalized intercalating agents, 3-14, were evaluated in two antibacterial assays (paper disk diffusion and 96-well microdilution) against Bacillus atrophaeus, ATCC 9372 and Escherichia coli, ATCC 47076. Although none of the compounds were active against this E.

Interference of intrinsic curvature of DNA by DNA-intercalating agents

Organic & Biomolecular Chemistry, 2012
It has been demonstrated in our studies that the intrinsic curvature of DNA can be easily interrupted by low concentrations of chloroquine and ethidium bromide. In addition, the changes of DNA curvature caused by varying the concentration of these two DNA intercalators can be readily verified through using an atomic force microscope.

Chemical interactions of cardiolipin with daunorubicin and other intercalating agents

European Journal of Cancer (1965), 1979
Abstract Cardiolipin interacts to form complexes with daunorubicin ( K d ⋍ 1 × 10 −5 M ), acridine orange ( K d ⋍ 6 × 10 −5 M ) and ethidium bromide ( K d ⋍ 4 × 10 −4 M ), as determined by difference spectroscopy. The complex with daunorubicin is initially ionic with maximal hypochromicity occurring at pH 7.8 and is dissociated by low ...

Stimulation of bleomycin-induced fragmentation of DNA by intercalating agents

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1975
Summary The effect of three intercalative drugs on the in vitro reaction of bleomycin with DNA was determined. In the presence of proflavine, ethidium bromide, or actinomycin D, the bleomycin-induced breakage of native, double-stranded DNA is enhanced.

Echinomycin: The first bifunctional intercalating agent in clinical trials

Investigational New Drugs, 1985
Echinomycin is a quinoxaline antibiotic that was originally isolated from Streptomyces echinatus. Based on its antitumor activity against two i.p. implanted murine tumors, the B16 melanoma, and the P388 leukemia, it was brought into clinical trials by the National Cancer Institute.

Action of intercalating agents on the activity of DNA polymerase I

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Nucleic Acids and Protein Synthesis, 1977
The effect of intercalating compounds such as 9-aminoacridine, quinacrine (atebrin), proflavine and daunomycin on the activity of DNA polymerase I(EC 2.7.7.7) was studied in vitro and compared with the binding of these acridines to native DNA. The enzyme kinetics were followed at various concentrations of DNA 3'-OH primer end groups and constant ...

Effect of Intercalation Method and Intercalating Agent Type on the Structure of Silane-Grafted Montmorillonite

Clays and Clay Minerals, 2013
AbstractSupercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) processing has been proven as a method for preparing polymer/montmorillonite (MMT) nanocomposites with improved platelet dispersion. The influence of scCO2 processing on the shape and size of the MMT tactoid/platelet, which is of great importance to the final platelet dispersion in the polymer matrix, is ...

Interaction of DNA-intercalating antitumor agents with adrenoceptors.

Molecular Pharmacology, 1985
The interaction between some examples of mononuclear and binuclear DNA-intercalating antitumor agents and alpha- and beta-adrenoceptors has been studied using radioligand-binding assays. Competition for 125I-BE 2254, [3H]rauwolscine, and (-)-[3H]dihydroalprenolol binding was used to assess affinity for alpha 1-, alpha 2-, and beta-adrenoceptor-binding ...

Effect of Intercalated Agents on Thermal Deintercalation of Kaolinite

Advanced Materials Research, 2012
A series of intercalated kaolinite with formamide, potassium acetate and acrylamide were prepared. The thermal deintercalation processes of these composites were studied using a combination of X-ray diffraction and thermal analysis technique. X-ray diffraction spectra showed acrylamide could be indirectly intercalated into kaolinite layers.

The coupling agents’ effects on the BSA intercalated into montmorillonite

Journal of Wuhan University of Technology-Mater. Sci. Ed., 2013
The effects of surface modification on montmorillonite (MMT) were illustrated in order to produce the composite material with premium properties. MMT was treated with two coupling agents: glutaraldehyde (GA) and γ-methacryloxy-propyl-trimethoxy silane (KH570).
