Mycothiol Peroxidase Activity as a Part of the Self-Resistance Mechanisms against the Antitumor Antibiotic Cosmomycin D

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum, 2022
Antibiotic-producing microorganisms usually require one or more self-resistance determinants to survive antibiotic production. The effectors of these mechanisms are proteins that inactivate the antibiotic, facilitate its transport, or modify the target ...

Spin‐Split Edge States in Metal‐Supported Graphene Nanoislands Obtained by CVD

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Combining STM measurements and ab‐initio calculations, we show that zig‐zag edges in graphene nanoislands grown on Ni(111) by CVD retrieve their spin‐polarized edge states after intercalation of a few monolayers of Au. ABSTRACT Spin‐split states localized on zigzag edges have been predicted for different free‐standing graphene nanostructures.

Dynamical Recrossing in the Intercalation Process of the Anticancer Agent Proflavine into DNA [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2019
Intercalation into DNA is the interaction mode of some anthracycline antibiotics. Recently, the molecular mechanism of this process was explored using the static free energy landscape. Here we explore the dynamical effects in the intercalation of proflavine into DNA by calculating the transmission coefficient κ-providing a measure of the departure from

Atomistic Mechanisms Triggered by Joule Heating Effects in Metallic Cu‐Bi Nanowires for Spintronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Bi doped metallic Cu nanowires are promising for spintronics thanks to the stabilization of a giant spin Hall effect. However, heat resulting from current injection forces Bi to leave solution, forcing segregation into monoatomic decorations which evolve into coherent crystalline aggregates.

Lessons from a Single Amino Acid Substitution: Anticancer and Antibacterial Properties of Two Phospholipase A2-Derived Peptides

open access: yesCurrent Issues in Molecular Biology, 2021
The membrane-active nature of phospholipase A2-derived peptides makes them potential candidates for antineoplastic and antibacterial therapies. Two short 13-mer C-terminal fragments taken from snake venom Lys49-PLA2 toxins (p-AppK and p-Acl), differing ...

Transparent Perovskite Light‐Emitting Diodes with Conductive Oxide Top Electrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Transparent perovskite light‐emitting diodes (TrPeLEDs) enable simultaneous display and transparency, expanding application possibilities. Using a metal oxide buffer layer and pulsed laser deposition, TrPeLEDs with diverse compositions and architectures are demonstrated.

Hydrogen-peroxide intercalated expanded graphite facilitates large enhancement in thermal conductivity of polyetherimide/graphite nanocomposites

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
In this work, we prepared expanded graphite (EG) filler using hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) as an oxidizing agent to study its impact on the thermal conductivity (k) of polyetherimide (PEI) composite, compared to EG prepared using sodium chlorate (NaClO3 ...

Discriminating Intercalative Effects of Threading Intercalator Nogalamycin, from Classical Intercalator Daunomycin, Using Single Molecule Atomic Force Spectroscopy.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
DNA threading intercalators are a unique class of intercalating agents, albeit little biophysical information is available on their intercalative actions.

SYNTHESIS AND ANTINEOPLASTIC ACTIVITY OF CERTAIN TRIAZENE AND TRIAZENO-ACRIDINE COMBILEXIN DERIVATIVES [PDF]

open access: yesBulletin of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Assiut University, 2007
Four series of bifunctional ligands have been synthesized as DNA-binding combilexins. These novel agents contain a triazenobenzene sulfonamide linker moiety that is attached to an intercalating acridine or acridone chromophore by a functionalized amide ...
