Intercellular junctions in nerve-free hydra
Cell and Tissue Research, 1980Epithelial cells of nerve-free hydra contain septate and gap junctions. In thin sections the gap junctions are characterized by a gap of 3-4 nm. Freeze-fracture demonstrates the presence of septate junctions and two further types of structures: (i) the "E-type" or "inverted" gap junctions with particles in an "enplaque conformation appearing as a ...

Structure and Function of Intercellular Junctions
1974Publisher Summary Intercellular junctions are specialized regions of contact between the apposed plasma membranes of adjacent cells, and recent evidence suggests that they are essential for the development of multicellular organisms. They provide the structural means for groups of cells to interact in certain defined ways, and thereby enable them to ...

Intercellular junctions in salivary glands
1990Human and mammalian salivary glands are made up of combinations of acinar, ductal, and myoepithelial cells, with each cell type playing a defined role in salivary secretion. Thus, acinar cells are devoted to production and release of proteins and electrolytes, duct cells constitute the walls of the pipes that convey secreted material from acini to the ...

Intercellular Junctions Between Human Odontoblasts
Cells Tissues Organs, 1985Intercellular junctions in the odontoblastic layer have been studied with a freeze-fracture technique. Children’s tooth germs were fixed, sliced and deminerahzed. Samples of the pulpodentinal border were routinely prepared for freeze-fracture. Three kinds of intercellular junctions were detected between human odontoblast cell bodies: gap junctions ...

Intercellular junctions in hepatocellular carcinoma.
Journal of submicroscopic cytology, 1983The freeze-fracture technique has been used to study the organization of intercellular junctions in two cases of hepatocellular carcinoma. A tumor free cirrhotic liver has been included for comparison. Tight junctions were disorganized in the tumor cells of hepatocellular carcinoma.

Mesothelial intercellular junctions and pathways.
Cell and tissue research, 1977Freeze-etch preparations of mesothelial cells taken from the peritoneum of mouse reveal the presence of vesicles invaginating the apical and the basal cell surfaces. These vesicles are scarcely seen within the cytoplasm. Long tortuous tubular profiles extend for considerable distance within the cytoplasm and are frequently associated with the vesicles.

VI. Intercellular Junctions Involving Neurons
2014The adhesion between neighboring neurons is sometimes reinforced by adherent junctions. These junctions are characterized, with few exceptions, by the presence of symmetrical plaques of dense material applied to the cytoplasmic face of the two apposed plasma membranes and of fine filaments converging upon these plaques.
