The effect of interleukin-1 receptor antagonist therapy on markers of inflammation in non-ST elevation acute coronary syndromes:the MRC-ILA Heart Study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
AIMS: Acute coronary syndromes (ACSs) are driven by inflammation within coronary plaque. Interleukin-1 (IL-1) has an established role in atherogenesis and the vessel-response to injury. ACS patients have raised serum markers of inflammation.

Dynamic Loading Regulates Meniscus‐Like Matrix Production in Human Mesenchymal Stromal Cell‐Seeded PET Scaffolds

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Dynamic compression enhances mesenchymal stromal cell proliferation in nonwoven PET scaffolds under chondrogenic differentiation conditions and triggers mechanosensitive transcriptional programs associated with extracellular matrix remodeling. These findings highlight the potential of mechanically stimulated PET scaffolds as a promising platform for ...

Gene Expression Analysis of Toll-like Receptor Pathways in Heterophils from Genetic Chicken Lines That Differ In Their Susceptibility to Salmonella enteritidis

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2012
Previously conducted studies using two chicken lines (A and B) show that line A birds have increased resistance to a number of bacterial and protozoan challenges and that heterophils isolated from line A birds are functionally more responsive ...

In Vivo Monitoring of Thrombo‐Inflammatory Biomarkers via Molecularly Imprinted Polymer‐Integrated Hydrogel Microneedles

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A wearable electrochemical microneedle patch integrates Prussian Blue redox transduction with molecularly imprinted polymer recognition for reagent‐free sampling and detection of thrombo‐inflammatory biomarkers in dermal interstitial fluid. The platform tracks thrombin and inflammatory cytokines with sensitive in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo performance,

Corylin inhibits LPS-induced inflammatory response and attenuates the activation of NLRP3 inflammasome in microglia

open access: yesBMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine, 2018
Background Inflammation has been found to be associated with many neurodegenerative diseases, including Parkinson’s and dementia. Attenuation of microglia-induced inflammation is a strategy that impedes the progression of neurodegenerative diseases ...

Regulation of thrombopoietin receptor expression and function [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Of the many cells in the body, the hematopoietic cells are among those with the highest rate of self-renewal and turnover. The production and destruction of these cells are tightly controlled by a number of hematopoietic growth factors, in particular by ...

Advanced Materials for Biologics Delivery to Brain Tumors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Material innovation is central to unlocking the therapeutic potential of biologics against many central nervous system diseases, including brain cancer. By engineering carriers with controlled transport, targeting, and release properties, advanced materials can overcome the blood–brain barrier and tumor microenvironment, improving the delivery of ...

Molecular regulation of human IgE synthesis

open access: yesAllergology International, 1999
Human IgE synthesis is largely dependent on the production of interleukin (IL)-4 or IL-13 and the expression of CD40 ligand. Such B cell help is not only provided by CD4+ T cells, but also by CD8+ T cells, γδ T cells, mast cells, basophils and ...

Copper‐Driven Epithelial Barrier Disruption: A Novel Mechanism of COPD Acute Exacerbations Mediated by the TNF‐α/ATP7A Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals a copper‐driven mechanism of COPD acute exacerbations mediated by the TNF‐α/ATP7A axis. TNF‐α suppresses the copper transporter ATP7A via competitive NF‐κB/CREB1/CBP signaling, resulting in intracellular copper accumulation, mitochondrial oxidative stress, and epithelial barrier disruption.

Protective effect of rutin supplementation against cisplatin-induced Nephrotoxicity in rats

open access: yesBMC Nephrology, 2017
Background Cisplatin (CP) is commonly used in the treatment of different types of cancer but nephrotoxicity has been a major limiting factor. Therefore, the present study aimed to study the possible protective effect of rutin against nephrotoxicity ...
