Interleukin-1beta promotes repair of the CNS.
The Journal of neuroscience : the official journal of the Society for Neuroscience, 2001Interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta) is a proinflammatory cytokine associated with the pathophysiology of demyelinating disorders such as multiple sclerosis and viral infections of the CNS. However, we demonstrate here that IL-1beta appears to promote remyelination in the adult CNS.

[Recommendations on therapy using interleukin-1beta-blocking agents].
Zeitschrift fur Rheumatologie, 2010In Germany, the only available interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta) blocking agent is anakinra (ANR) (as of August 2009) which is given subcutaneously at a dosage of 100 mg/day (adults) and 1-2 mg/kg body weight/day (maximum 100 mg/day) (children), respectively.

ICEBERG: a novel inhibitor of interleukin-1beta generation.
Cell, 2000ProIL-1beta is a proinflammatory cytokine that is proteolytically processed to its active form by caspase-1. Upon receipt of a proinflammatory stimulus, an upstream adaptor, RIP2, binds and oligomerizes caspase-1 zymogen, promoting its autoactivation.

Imidazoline compounds protect against interleukin 1beta-induced beta-cell apoptosis.
Diabetes, 2001Imidazoline compounds have been considered for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. We have now investigated the effects of imidazolines on interleukin (IL)-1beta-induced beta-cell apoptosis and the signal transduction pathways involved. Inhibition of Ca2+ influx into beta-cells by D-600, a blocker of voltage-gated L-type Ca2+ channels, suppressed IL ...

Salazosulfapyridine suppresses chondrocyte mediated degradation induced by interleukin 1beta.
The Journal of rheumatology, 1997To investigate the effects of salazosulfapyridine (SASP) and methotrexate (MTX) on interleukin (IL)-1beta treated rabbit chondrocytes.Normal rabbit chondrocytes were cultured to confluency. IL-1beta was added to serum-free culture medium in the presence or absence of SASP or MTX.

A role for geranylgeranylation in interleukin‐1β secretion
Arthritis & Rheumatism, 2006AbstractObjectiveMevalonate kinase deficiency (MKD) is an autosomal‐recessive disorder characterized by recurring episodes of inflammation. MK catalyzes the phosphorylation of mevalonic acid, which is an early step in isoprenoid biosynthesis. The goal of our study was to determine whether a temporary shortage of certain isoprenoid end products and/or ...

Biological role of interleukin-1beta in defensive-aggressive behaviour.
Journal of biological regulators and homeostatic agents, 2011During the past decade, a great deal of data has accumulated supporting the notion that cytokines interact to regulate several aspects of social and emotional behaviour. There are reports of a positive correlation between cytokine levels and aggressive behaviour in healthy populations, and clinical reports describe an increase of aggressive traits in ...

Regulation of preimplantation development of bovine embryos by interleukin-1beta.
Biology of reproduction, 1998Experiments were performed to determine the actions of recombinant bovine interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta) on the growth of preimplantation embryos. In the first series of studies, IL-1beta was added at 8-10 h after insemination, and the percentage of oocytes developing to the blastocyst stage was evaluated. IL-1beta increased development to the blastocyst

Cellular mechanisms of neuroinflammatory pain: the role of interleukin-1beta.
Acta anaesthesiologica Taiwanica : official journal of the Taiwan Society of Anesthesiologists, 2007Dorsal horn of the spinal cord is important in the transduction and modulation of various pain signals. Interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta) not only plays an important role in the nociceptive modulation but also enhances the spinal cord nociceptive neuron wind-up.
