Possible mechanism for the alpha subunit of the interleukin‐2 receptor (CD25) to influence interleukin‐2 receptor signal transduction [PDF]
The receptors for interleukin 2 (IL‐2) and interleukin 15 (IL‐15) in T cells share the IL‐2Rβ subunit (CD122) and γC subunit but have private α subunits. Despite utilizing the same receptor chains known to be necessary and sufficient to transduce IL‐2 signals the two cytokines manifest different cellular effects.

To determine the mechanism of glucocorticoid (GC)-mediated inhibition of T cell functions, the effect of dexamethasone (DM) on T cell proliferation and interleukin-2 receptor (IL-2R) generation were studied. Dexamethasone inhibited IL-2-induced T cell proliferation by 30%-88%, relative to its concentration within the cultures.

In the present study, the effect of in vitro cyclosporin A (CsA) treatment on IL-2R expression and the metastatic behavior of B16F10 melanoma cells has been reported. CsA treatment was found to increase the percentage of B16F10 cells expressing the α-subunit of IL-2R on the cell surface and also at the mRNA level.
