Interleukin-6 Inhibitor: Tocilizumab
2015Inhibitors of interleukin-6 (IL-6) are proteins which decrease the actions of the inflammatory cytokine, IL-6. Clinically, tocilizumab is the major inhibitor of IL-6. Several other proteins with IL-6 inhibitory actions (e.g., sirukumab) are being tested in clinical trials.

Soluble gp130 is the natural inhibitor of soluble interleukin‐6 receptor transsignaling responses
European Journal of Biochemistry, 2001Signal transduction in response to interleukin‐6 (IL‐6) requires binding of the cytokine to its receptor (IL‐6R) and subsequent homodimerization of the signal transducer gp130. The complex of IL‐6 and soluble IL‐6R (sIL‐6R) triggers dimerization of gp130 and induces responses on cells that do not express membrane bound IL‐6R.

Interleukin-6 is an important in vivo inhibitor of intestinal epithelial cell death in mice
Gut, 2008Background and aims Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a well-recognised mediator of liver disease and regeneration. However, the in vivo effects of IL-6 on enterocytes and the intestinal tract have not been elucidated. We sought to determine the in vivo effects of IL-6 on enterocytes.

Abstract Interleukin 6 (IL-6) is a pleiotropic cytokine which has diverse biological activity, with wide-ranging effects on the immune system, homeostasis, and metabolism. It is the most abundant pro-inflammatory cytokine in the synovial joints and sera of patients with active rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and has been found to play a ...

Tocilizumab: The first interleukin-6-receptor inhibitor
American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy, 2008The pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, clinical efficacy, safety, and role of tocilizumab in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are reviewed.Tocilizumab is a novel monoclonal antibody that competitively inhibits the binding of interleukin-6 (IL-6) to its receptor (IL-6R).

Plasminogen activator inhibitor type‐1 and interleukin‐6 in haemolytic uraemic syndrome
Journal of Paediatrics and Child Health, 2000Objective: Because haemolytic uraemic syndrome (HUS) is an important cause of renal dysfunction in children, the availability of prognostic markers of disease severity could assist in identifying those at risk of developing long‐term sequelae. The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that plasma levels of plasminogen activator inhibitor type‐1

Interleukin-6 bioactivity (IL-6) has been shown to be present in Sertoli cells. To further characterize the IL-6 in the seminiferous epithelium, the IL-6 like-antigen was detected, stage-specific basal distribution of IL-6-like bioactivity and its regulation by FSH, cAMP and TPA was characterized in isolated, rat seminiferous tubule segments.
