Interleukin 6 in Hyposmia [PDF]

open access: yesJAMA Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery, 2013
Olfaction is a complex sensory process that has not been fully studied. Elevated plasma levels of interleukin 6 (IL-6) have been found in patients with several acute and chronic diseases but have not been reported in patients with smell loss (hyposmia). To determine IL-6 levels in patients with hyposmia.Retrospective study.

Expression of interleukin-6 and interleukin-6 receptor in Hodgkin's disease [PDF]

open access: yesBlood, 1991
Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a multipotent lymphokine that can mediate differentiation of B cells into Ig-secreting cells, stimulate the growth of plasmacytomas, hybridomas, and T cells, and induce acute- phase proteins in liver cells. It has been suggested that IL-6 is involved in the pathogenesis of several diseases by autocrine or paracrine pathways.

Interleukin-6 Promoter Haplotypes and Interleukin-6 Cytokine Responses [PDF]

open access: yesShock, 2003
Genetic variations contribute to differences in the inflammatory response and are markers for disease risk and outcomes. We studied three single-nucleotide polymorphisms (-597 G-->A, -572 G-->C, and -174 G-->C) in the IL-6 promoter to determine associations with ex vivo LPS-stimulated IL-6 production by leukocytes.

Interleukin-1 and Interleukin-6 in Psoriasis

open access: yesJournal of Investigative Dermatology, 1990
We report on the levels of expression of IL-1 and IL-6 in skin from psoriasis patients. Different approaches were pursued. Initially, the levels of IL-1 beta and IL-6 were measured in suction blister fluid from lesional and uninvolved skin from psoriasis patients, using a sensitive enzyme-linked immunoabsorbent assay (ELISA) and bio-assay.

Interleukin‐6: a cytokine to forget [PDF]

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, 2004
ABSTRACT It is known that proinflammatory cytokines such as interleukin‐6 (IL‐6) are expressed in the central nervous system (CNS) during disease conditions and affect several brain functions including memory and learning.

The interleukin-6/interleukin-6-receptorsystem is activated in donor hearts

open access: yesJournal of the American College of Cardiology, 2002
To assess the potential of the donor heart to respond to interleukin-6 (IL6), the present study investigated the expression of IL6 receptor components in the myocardium of donor hearts before transplantation.Donor heart dysfunction early after transplantation has been associated with the cytokine storm after donor brain death. Proinflammatory cytokines
