A Spliced Isoform of Interleukin 6 mRNA Produced by Renal Cell Carcinoma Encodes for an Interleukin 6 Inhibitor

Cancer Research, 2005
Abstract Interleukin 6 (IL-6) is a multifunctional and pleiotropic cytokine and in renal cell carinoma (RCC), this cytokine exerts proinflammatory, immunosuppressive and growth stimulating properties. A spliced isoform of IL-6 mRNA has been described in peripheral blood mononuclear cells and encodes for a potential protein lacking IL-6 ...

Tocilizumab: The first interleukin-6-receptor inhibitor

American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy, 2008
The pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, clinical efficacy, safety, and role of tocilizumab in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are reviewed.Tocilizumab is a novel monoclonal antibody that competitively inhibits the binding of interleukin-6 (IL-6) to its receptor (IL-6R).

Plasminogen activator inhibitor type‐1 and interleukin‐6 in haemolytic uraemic syndrome

Journal of Paediatrics and Child Health, 2000
Objective: Because haemolytic uraemic syndrome (HUS) is an important cause of renal dysfunction in children, the availability of prognostic markers of disease severity could assist in identifying those at risk of developing long‐term sequelae. The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that plasma levels of plasminogen activator inhibitor type‐1

Soluble gp130 is the natural inhibitor of soluble interleukin‐6 receptor transsignaling responses

European Journal of Biochemistry, 2001
Signal transduction in response to interleukin‐6 (IL‐6) requires binding of the cytokine to its receptor (IL‐6R) and subsequent homodimerization of the signal transducer gp130. The complex of IL‐6 and soluble IL‐6R (sIL‐6R) triggers dimerization of gp130 and induces responses on cells that do not express membrane bound IL‐6R.

Function of interleukin-6 as an inhibitor of meiotic DNA synthesis in the rat seminiferous epithelium

Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology, 1995
Interleukin-6 bioactivity (IL-6) has been shown to be present in Sertoli cells. To further characterize the IL-6 in the seminiferous epithelium, the IL-6 like-antigen was detected, stage-specific basal distribution of IL-6-like bioactivity and its regulation by FSH, cAMP and TPA was characterized in isolated, rat seminiferous tubule segments.

Interleukin-6 is an important in vivo inhibitor of intestinal epithelial cell death in mice

Gut, 2008
Background and aims Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a well-recognised mediator of liver disease and regeneration. However, the in vivo effects of IL-6 on enterocytes and the intestinal tract have not been elucidated. We sought to determine the in vivo effects of IL-6 on enterocytes.

Recurrent hypofibrinogenemia with interleukin-6 inhibitors tocilizumab and sarilumab: A case report

Journal of Hematology and Allied Sciences
Hypofibrinogenemia is a rare but clinically significant adverse effect of interleukin-6 (IL-6) receptor blockade, most associated with tocilizumab. We present a case of recurrent hypofibrinogenemia in an elderly patient with seronegative rheumatoid arthritis who developed bleeding complications during tocilizumab therapy and subsequently experienced ...
