Interleukin-17 and Type 17 Helper T Cells
New England Journal of Medicine, 2009Type 17 helper T cells (Th17) — a third class of T cells — and their major cytokine, interleukin-17, are essential for the defense against certain fungi, extracellular bacteria, and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Defective control of Th17 cells and production of interleukin-17 are prominent in chronic inflammation and several immunoinflammatory disorders.

Coronary Artery Disease, 2006
Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease and interleukins are considered to play a key role in the chronic vascular inflammatory response that is typical of atherosclerosis. The serum levels of several of these cytokines have been found to positively correlate with coronary arterial disease and its sequelae. The aim of our study was to evaluate

Interleukin-17 and the interleukin-17 family member network.
Allergy and asthma proceedings, 2004Interleukin-17 (now known as IL-17A), is a homodimer of two 155 amino acid chains secreted by CD4+ activated memory T cells (CD45+ RO+) and is available as a glycosylated 20- to 30-kDa homodimeric peptide. Human IL-17 shows amino acid sequence identity of 62.5 and 58% to the mouse and rat sequences, respectively.

Interleukin-17 and airway remodelling
Pulmonary Pharmacology & Therapeutics, 2006Interleukin (IL)-17A is emerging as important in reinforcing innate immunity by orchestrating sustained neutrophilic mobilisation. Even though there are indications of association with specific airway diseases, there is still no final proof that IL-17A plays a truly causative pathogenic role. There is evidence in mice that endogenous IL-17A contributes

Current Protocols in Immunology, 2001
AbstractThis unit describes two procedures for measurement of interleukin‐17 (IL‐17). IL‐17 is a pleiotropic proinflammatory cytokine that binds to its ubiquitously expressed receptor, IL‐17R, resulting in the induction of several other cytokines including IL‐6 and IL‐8.

Interleukin-17 and fat: Timing is everything
ImmunityInterleukin-17 plays a major role in controlling adipose tissue homeostasis. In a recent study published in Nature, Douglas et al. demonstrate that time-of-day-dependent expression of interleukin-17 by tissue-resident innate lymphocytes in the adipose tissue drives circadian regulation of adipose tissue homeostasis and function.
