Expression of interleukin 2 and the interleukin 2 receptor in aging rats
Cellular Immunology, 1989Lymphocytes of aged animals exhibit a marked decrease in proliferative capacity in response to mitogen stimulation when compared to those of younger animals. In humans and mice the decreased proliferation is due at least in part (i) to the inability of lymphocytes to synthesize sufficient interleukin 2 (IL-2) and (ii) to decreased expression of IL-2 ...

Biotinylated recombinant interleukin-2
Journal of Immunological Methods, 1988Recombinant interleukin-2 was biotinylated using a N-hydroxyl-succinimidyl [3H]biotin ester. The biotinylated lymphokine retained full binding and growth-promoting activities when assayed on the interleukin-2-dependent murine cell line HT-2. In preliminary studies, biotinylated interleukin-2 was used in conjunction with immunogold staining to ...

Cloning of a T cell growth factor that interacts with the beta chain of the interleukin-2 receptor.
Science, 1994A cytokine was identified that stimulated the proliferation of T lymphocytes, and a complementary DNA clone encoding this new T cell growth factor was isolated.

The Journal of Immunology, 1985
Abstract The role of interleukin 2 (IL 2) on the expression of IL 2 receptors and on the synthesis of gamma-interferon (gamma-IFN) by human thymocytes was investigated. Human thymocytes isolated from specimens obtained during cardiac surgery of infants and children were induced with one or all of the following agents: IL 2, concanavalin ...

Differential bioassay of interleukin 2 and interleukin 4
Journal of Immunological Methods, 1987The T cell-derived lymphokines interleukin 2 (IL-2) and interleukin 4 (IL-4, originally BSF-1) both exhibit T cell growth-promoting activity. Recent observations that T cell lines commonly used as indicator cells in IL-2 bioassays also proliferate in response to IL-4 demonstrate the lack of specificity of these bioassays for IL-2.

Interleukin-2 and interleukin-15: immunotherapy for cancer
Cytokine & Growth Factor Reviews, 2002Interleukin (IL)-2 and IL-15 are two cytokine growth factors that regulate lymphocyte function and homeostasis. Early clinical interest in the use of IL-2 in the immunotherapy of renal cell carcinoma and malignant melanoma demonstrated the first efficacy for cytokine monotherapy in the treatment of neoplastic disease.

Interleukin 2/interleukin 2 receptor system in type 1 diabetes
Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice, 1989There is increasing evidence that cellular immune abnormalities are involved in the pathogenesis of type 1 diabetes mellitus. The non-obese diabetic (NOD) mouse, a model of human type 1 diabetes, develops mononuclear cell infiltration of its pancreatic islets (insulitis), leading to /3 cell destruction and overt diabetes [l]. In recent studies, most of

Survey of Immunologic Research, 1984
Considerable progress has been made in the past year in clarifying the structure-function relationships that are central in controlling T lymphocyte proliferation. Once a cDNA probe for the IL-2 receptor is cloned, all the primary reagents needed for detailed study of the functional consequences of IL-2 binding will be available and one anticipates ...

Interleukin 2 and Psoriasis [PDF]
• Immunotherapy with interleukin 2 and lymphokineactivated killer cells can result in regression of metastatic cancer. Dermatologic complications associated with this therapy include erythema, pruritus, and a mild desquamation. Three patients with a history of psoriasis received high-dose interleukin 2 alone or in conjunction with lymphokine-activated ...
