Effect of winding orientation on energy absorption and failure modes of filament wound kenaf/glass fibre reinforced epoxy hybrid composite tubes under intermediate-velocity impact (IVI) load

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2021
This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation of the behaviour and strength of hybrid kenaf/glass fibre-reinforced epoxy tubes subjected to axial intermediate-velocity impact loading.

Helical Superstructure of Intermediate Filaments [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2019
Intermediate filaments are the least explored among the large cytoskeletal elements. We show here that they display conformational anomalies in narrow microfluidic channels. Their unusual behavior can be understood as the consequence of a previously undetected, large scale helically curved superstructure.

Data-constrained Magnetohydrodynamic Simulation of an Intermediate Solar Filament Eruption

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
Solar eruptive activities could occur in weak magnetic field environments and over large spatial scales, which are especially relevant to eruptions involving intermediate or quiescent solar filaments.

Intermediate Filaments: Vimentin Moves in [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Biology, 2002
Vimentin intermediate filaments move bi-directionally along microtubules in the cell. Recent work has identified the microtubule motor cytoplasmic dynein as the missing inward-directed motor that drives this movement.

Novel origin of lamin-derived cytoplasmic intermediate filaments in tardigrades

open access: yeseLife, 2016
Intermediate filament (IF) proteins, including nuclear lamins and cytoplasmic IF proteins, are essential cytoskeletal components of bilaterian cells. Despite their important role in protecting tissues against mechanical force, no cytoplasmic IF proteins ...

Neuronal intermediate filament IgGs in CSF: Autoimmune Axonopathy Biomarkers

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, 2021
Objectives To describe CSF‐defined neuronal intermediate filament (NIF) autoimmunity. Methods NIF‐IgG CSF‐positive patients (41, 0.03% of 118599 tested, 1996–2019) were included (serum was neither sensitive nor specific).

Role of Intermediate Filaments in Vesicular Traffic

open access: yesCells, 2016
Intermediate filaments are an important component of the cellular cytoskeleton. The first established role attributed to intermediate filaments was the mechanical support to cells.

Epithelial Intermediate Filaments: Guardians against Microbial Infection?

open access: yesCells, 2016
Intermediate filaments are abundant cytoskeletal components of epithelial tissues. They have been implicated in overall stress protection. A hitherto poorly investigated area of research is the function of intermediate filaments as a barrier to microbial

Structure of the Intermediate Filament-Binding Region of Desmoplakin. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Desmoplakin (DP) is a cytoskeletal linker protein that connects the desmosomal cadherin/plakoglobin/plakophilin complex to intermediate filaments (IFs).

Intermediate Filaments as Effectors of Cancer Development and Metastasis: A Focus on Keratins, Vimentin, and Nestin

open access: yesCells, 2019
Intermediate filament (IF) proteins make up the largest family of cytoskeletal proteins in metazoans, and are traditionally known for their roles in fostering structural integrity in cells and tissues.
