Intermittent hypobaric hypoxia increases the ability of neutrophils to generate superoxide anion in humans

Clinical and Experimental Pharmacology and Physiology, 2003
Summary1. We investigated the effect of intermittent exposure to hypobaric hypoxia on the ability of neutrophils to generate ·O2–.2. Seven male volunteers were exposed intermittently to hypobaric hypoxia, equivalent to an altitude of 4500 m, for 7 successive days.

Effect of chronic intermittent hypobaric hypoxia on heart rate variability in conscious rats

Clinical and Experimental Pharmacology and Physiology, 2019
AbstractTo examine the effect of chronic intermittent hypobaric hypoxia (CIHH) on heart rate variability (HRV), male adult Sprague Dawley rats were exposed to hypoxia (oxygen 11.1%) in a hypobaric chamber for 42 days, 6 hours each day, simulating an altitude of 5000 m.

Intermittent Hypobaric Hypoxia Induces Neuroprotection in Kainate-Induced Oxidative Stress in Rats

Journal of Molecular Neuroscience, 2013
Severe hypoxia induces oxidative stress, which can lead to brain injury. In this study, we wanted to determine whether intermittent hypobaric hypoxia induces oxidative stress in the brain. In adult rats exposed to 380 mmHg in a hypobaric chamber for 3 h/day for 6 days, we determined the levels of malondialdehyde and nitric oxide derivatives in the ...

Haematopoietic and right ventricular response to intermittent hypobaric hypoxia in meat‐type chickens

Avian Pathology, 1994
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of simulated high altitude (2054 m) on erythropoiesis and pulmonary hypertension-induced right ventricular hypertrophy. Broiler chickens were reared at atmospheric pressure (altitude 295 m) or in a hypobaric chamber at an atmospheric pressure of 592 mmHg (calculated partial pressure of oxygen: 124 ...

[Treatment of patients with neurocirculatory asthenia by intermittent hypobaric hypoxia].

Zhurnal nevropatologii i psikhiatrii imeni S.S. Korsakova (Moscow, Russia : 1952), 1993
Rheoencephalography and electroencephalography were employed during 25 days of hypobarotherapy of 62 patients suffering from vegetovascular dystonia with different types of brain +blood circulation. The efficacy of the treatment with the aid of periodic hypobaric hypoxia turned out inconclusive which was specified by the initial status of vegetative ...

Chronic intermittent hypobaric hypoxia attenuates radiation induced heart damage in rats

Life Sciences, 2016
Radiation-induced heart damage (RIHD) is becoming an increasing concern for patients and clinicians due to the use of radiotherapy for thoracic tumor. Chronic intermittent hypobaric hypoxia (CIHH) preconditioning has been documented to exert a cardioprotective effect.

Restructuring of the thyroid gland in primary hypothyroidism under the influence of intermittent hypobaric hypoxia

Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine, 2008
We studied the effect of intermittent hypobaric hypoxia on morphofunctional characteristics of the thyroid gland during experimental hypothyroidism. Functional activity of the thyroid gland increased in the early period of hypoxia. Morphofunctional parameters reached a constant level with increasing the duration of hypoxia to 7-15 days.

[Impact of intermittent hypobaric hypoxia on the thyroid morphofunctional state in experimental hyperthyroidism].

Arkhiv patologii, 2007
Within 5 days of hypoxia there was an increase in thyroid functional activity, but on days 15-30 there was a decrease in T3 and T4 concentrations and an increase in thyroid-stimulating hormone. Clear correlations were found between the morphometric indices of the thyroid epithelium and the blood concentration of T3 and T4.
