AN INTERNAL RADIATION DOSIMETRY COMPUTER PROGRAM, IDAC 2.0, FOR ESTIMATION OF PATIENT DOSES FROM RADIOPHARMACEUTICALS.

open access: yes, 2014
The internal dosimetry computer program internal dose assessment by computer (IDAC) for calculations of absorbed doses to organs and tissues as well as effective doses to patients from examinations with radiopharmaceuticals has been developed.

The Role of Language in Shaping Cultural Perceptions Within Healthcare and Supporting Neurodivergent People's Well‐being and Access to Care: Focus on Autistic Experiences

open access: yesJournal of Medical Radiation Sciences, EarlyView.
Chronic stigmatisation and social exclusion of neurodivergent people have resulted in poorer quality of life and adverse health outcomes. Language has been weaponised and has furthered their suffering and isolation. With this paper, we propose some considerations of optimal communication interactions in healthcare with neurodivergent people, in general,

Treatment plan dosimetric impact after catheter stretch during multi-catheter interstitial breast brachytherapy

open access: yesJournal of Contemporary Brachytherapy, 2017
Purpose: Nylon 6/6 interstitial brachytherapy catheters may stretch when exposed to moisture, mechanical tension, and body temperature. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the magnitude of catheter stretch during a course of multi-catheter ...

Quantification of 10B and 11B in Biological Samples in Translational Science and Clinical Applications for Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT)

open access: yesMedicinal Research Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) is a targeted radiotherapy that exploits the selective accumulation of the 10B isotope within tumors, followed by irradiation with low‐energy neutrons to induce high linear energy transfer particles with short path lengths, resulting in localized tumor cell destruction while sparing surrounding healthy ...

Microplastics and the Endocrine–Metabolic Interface: Novel Diagnostic Tools Targeting Thyroid–Adipose Axis

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Microplastics (MPs) have been identified as major environmental contaminants that can affect organisms directly and act as carriers of particles and chemical additives, thereby aggravating endocrine networks that coordinate metabolic homeostasis.

Electron Absorbed Fractions and S Factors for Intermediate Size Target Volumes: Comparison of Analytic Calculations and Monte Carlo Simulations

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The absorbed fraction and the S factor represent fundamental quantities in MIRD-based dosimetry of radiopharmaceutical therapy (RPT). Although Monte Carlo (MC) simulations represent the gold standard in RPT dosimetry, dose point kernels (DPK) obtained ...

Implementation of internal monitoring programs for workers occupationally exposed by 131I in nuclear medicine services in Brazil

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Radiation Sciences, 2018
In nuclear medicine services (NMS), workers routinely handle radionuclides for diagnostic and therapy. This practice represents a risk of incorporation by these radionuclides. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) recommends the implementation of

Nonthermal plasma approaches for combating implant‐associated infections: A compendious review

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
Implant‐associated infections pose serious clinical challenges. Non‐thermal plasma (NTP) modifications overcome this bottleneck in distinct ways relative to traditional sterilization methods. Gas‐phase plasmas generate highly energetic species, UV radiation and reactive oxygen/nitrogen species (RONS), which alter the implant surface properties.
