Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Age-related Differences in the Clinical Presentation, Associated Metabolic Abnormality, and Estimated Cardiovascular Risks from Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: A Cross-sectional Study from Health Evaluation Center in Taiwan

open access: yesInternational Journal of Gerontology, 2010
Background: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), which represents metabolic abnormality and reflects extra visceral fat deposition, has been shown to be a threat to public health and associated with cardiovascular risks.

Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

Evaluating the interview performance of internal medicine interns

open access: yesAcademic Medicine, 1989
Limited primary data are available to indicate in which areas physicians' interview performances are deficient. Videotaped recordings of 48 house officers performing a complete medical history were evaluated using a checklist to assess content, questioning technique, and interview style.

Analysis of internal control models

open access: yesBuhalterinės Apskaitos Teorija ir Praktika, 2014
Internal control evaluation is one of the most important steps of audit. For conducting this step properly internal control evaluation models are used. Every model has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Statin Use and Mortality among Patients Hospitalized with Sepsis: A Retrospective Cohort Study within Southern California, 2008–2018

open access: yesCritical Care Research and Practice, 2022
Background. Despite early goal-directed therapy, sepsis mortality remains high. Statins exhibit pleiotropic effects. Objective. We sought to compare mortality outcomes among statin users versus nonusers who were hospitalized with sepsis.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Structured, proactive care coordination versus usual care for Improving Morbidity during Post-Acute Care Transitions for Sepsis (IMPACTS): a pragmatic, randomized controlled trial

open access: yesTrials, 2019
s Background Hospital mortality for patients with sepsis has recently declined, but sepsis survivors still suffer from significant long-term mortality and morbidity.
