Fluctuating thermal environments of shallow-water rocky reefs in the Gulf of California, Mexico. [PDF]
As part of a broad-scale study of the biogeography of rocky reefs in the Gulf of California, Mexico (GOC), we collected a continuous 1-yr temperature time series at ~5 m water depth at 16 sites spanning 5° of latitude and ~700 km along the western ...

Can we identify non-stationary dynamics of trial-to-trial variability?" [PDF]
Identifying sources of the apparent variability in non-stationary scenarios is a fundamental problem in many biological data analysis settings. For instance, neurophysiological responses to the same task often vary from each repetition of the same ...

ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

On short (15-year) to mid-term (30-year) time-scales how the Earth’s surface temperature evolves can be dominated by internal variability as demonstrated by the global-warming pause or ‘hiatus’.

This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

IceCube Non-detection of GRBs: Constraints on the Fireball Properties
The increasingly deep limit on the neutrino emission from gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) with IceCube observations has reached the level that could put useful constraints on the fireball properties.

Chemotherapy side effects significantly impact cancer survivors' quality of life. Using protein levels in blood samples from breast cancer patients before and after 12 weeks of taxane treatment, we detected treatment‐dependent changes in calcium signaling and aging pathways associated with cancer recurrence.

Community Earth System Model-Large Ensemble (CESM-LE) simulations are used to partition the Surface Air Temperature (SAT) trends over East Asia into the contribution of external forcing factors and internal variability.

Global climate models exhibit large biases in the Southern Ocean. For example, in models Antarctic bottom water is formed mostly through open‐ocean deep convection rather than through shelf convection.
