Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Fractal-Based Image Encoding and Compression Techniques

open access: yesCommunications, 2013
In computer science and information theory, data compression, source coding, or bit-rate reduction is the process of encoding digital information using fewer bits than the original representation.

Solar Radiation Estimation Using Data Mining Techniques for Remote Areas—A Case Study in Ethiopia

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
High quality of solar radiation data is essential for solar resource assessment. For remote areas this is a challenge, as often only satellite data with low spatial resolution are available.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Recent Crustal Deformation Based on Interpolation of GNSS Velocity in Continental China

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2020
We used the interpolation method of two-dimensional vector velocity field data based on Green’s function to conduct coupled interpolation with a Poisson’s ratio of 0.5 for 1966 horizontal velocity field data from 1999 to 2017 and obtained the uniform ...

The use of singlebeam echo‐sounder depth data to produce demersal fish distribution models that are comparable to models produced using multibeam echo‐sounder depth

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2021
Seafloor characteristics can help in the prediction of fish distribution, which is required for fisheries and conservation management. Despite this, only 5%–10% of the world's seafloor has been mapped at high resolution, as it is a time‐consuming and ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.
