Intersecting Circuits Generate Precisely Patterned Retinal Waves [PDF]

open access: yesNeuron, 2013
The developing retina generates spontaneous glutamatergic (stage III) waves of activity that sequentially recruit neighboring ganglion cells with opposite light responses (ON and OFF RGCs). This activity pattern is thought to help establish parallel ON and OFF pathways in downstream visual areas.

Turbulent features of nearshore wave–current flow [PDF]

open access: yesOcean Science
Waves and currents influence nearly all nearshore physical processes. Their complex interaction gives birth to complex turbulence features that are far from being completely understood.

Supersymmetric intersections of M-branes and pp-waves [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2003
We study supersymmetric intersections of M2 and M5 branes with different pp-waves of M-theory. We consider first M-brane probes in the background of pp-waves and determine under which conditions the embedding is supersymmetric. We particularize our formalism to the case of pp-waves with 32, 24 and 20 supersymmetries.

Dynamic analysis of steel chimney considering rotational components of earthquake [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Structural and Construction Engineering, 2021
The present study deals with dynamic analysis of steel chimney taking rotational components of earthquake into account. The translational components of the earthquake have been used in order to obtain the rotational components of the earthquake, based on

On the intersection of sets of incoming and outgoing waves [PDF]

open access: yesQuarterly of Applied Mathematics, 2008
In the neighborhood of a boundary point, the solution of a first-order symmetric homogenous hyperbolic system is conveniently decomposed into fundamental waves solutions that are readily classified as outgoing, incoming, and stationary, or tangential.

Intersection Waves

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 2017
AbstractIntersections in a fracture network control the connectivity of the flow paths through rock. The long near‐linear geometric nature of fractures makes them difficult to identify and characterize. We present a new type of elastic wave, an intersection wave, which travels along an intersection and is sensitive to the coupling between two ...

Conical intersections for light and matter waves [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Physics: X, 2016
We review the design, theory, and applications of two dimensional periodic lattices hosting conical intersections in their energy-momentum spectrum. The best known example is the Dirac cone, where propagation is governed by an effective Dirac equation, with electron spin replaced by a "fermionic" half-integer pseudospin.

Rip currents by intersecting wave on barred beach with rip channel

open access: yesShui kexue jinzhan, 2019
The study of rip currents by intersecting waves is helpful to the comprehensive study of disaster mechanisms and risk assessment. To better understand the characteristics of rip currents controlled by hydrodynamic forcing and longshore topographical ...

Self-intersecting marginally outer-trapped surfaces within spherically symmetric black holes

open access: yes, 2023
Black hole mergers have been studied for over 50 years but are still not fully understood, despite growing relevance with the constant stream of gravitational wave detections.
