Pulse wave velocity (PWV) has been used to evaluate arterial stiffness of large arteries. Here, we examine the feasibility of radial-digital PWV (RD-PWV) as a measure of stiffness of smaller arteries, and its response to changes in local mean arterial ...

Remark on modular weights in low-energy effective field theory from type II string theory
We revisit the modular weights in type IIB magnetized D-brane models. The simple analysis of wave function shows that the four-dimensional matter fields have the modular weight -1/2, but it may shift as one in type IIA intersecting D-brane models.

Arterial stiffness, as measured by pulse wave velocity, for the early non-invasive screening of cardiovascular disease is becoming ever more widely used and is an independent prognostic indicator for a variety of pathologies including arteriosclerosis ...

Open Intersection Numbers and the Wave Function of the KdV Hierarchy [PDF]
Recently R. Pandharipande, J. Solomon and R. Tessler initiated a study of the intersection theory on the moduli space of Riemann surfaces with boundary. They conjectured that the generating series of the intersection numbers is a specific solution of a system of PDEs, that they called the open KdV equations.

Porosity Effects on the Dispersion Relation of Water Waves through Dense Array of Vertical Cylinders
There is growing interest for water-wave flows through arrangements of cylinders with application to the performance of porous marine structures and environmental flows in coastal vegetation.

Intersecting black branes in strong gravitational waves [PDF]
We consider intersecting black branes with strong gravitational waves propagating along their worldvolume in the context of supergravity theories. Both near-horizon and space-filling gravitational wave modes are included in our ansatz. The equations of motion (originally, partial differential equations) are shown to reduce to ordinary differential ...

Intersections involving monopoles and waves in eleven dimensions [PDF]
Summary: We consider intersections in eleven dimensions involving Kaluza-Klein monopoles and Brinkmann waves. Besides these purely gravitational configurations, we also construct solutions to the equations of motion that involve additional \(M2\)- and \(M5\)-branes.

Nonadiabatic decay of metastable states on coupled linear potentials
Avoided crossings of level pairs with opposite slopes can form potential-energy minima for the external degree of freedom of quantum particles, giving rise to metastable states on the avoided crossings (MSACs).

Objective: Pulse Wave Velocity (PWV) can be measured between different sites. Here we used two different aspects to assess the PWV; the standard method Carotid-Femoral (CF) Sphygmocor (AtCorMedical – Australia) and the pOpmetre ® (Axelife SAS – France ...
