Is turbulence in the interstellar medium driven by feedback or gravity? An observational test [PDF]
Galaxies' interstellar media (ISM) are observed to be supersonically turbulent, but the ultimate power source that drives turbulent motion remains uncertain. The two dominant models are that the turbulence is driven by star formation feedback and/or that

The presence of dust in the general interstellar medium is inferred from the extinction, polarization, and scattering of starlight; the presence of dark nebulae; interstellar depletions; the observed infrared emission around certain stars and various ...

Mind and Cosmos as Throughput Systems: A Convergence Through the Throughput Model
ABSTRACT This paper advances a conceptual and mathematical foundations approach by applying the throughput model (TPM) to cosmic phenomena, reframing the universe as an extended information processing system. TPM's four stages, Perception, Information, Judgement and Decision Choice, are reformulated in explicit information‐theoretic and dynamical ...

Graph-based interpretation of the molecular interstellar medium segmentation [PDF]
We present a generalization of the Giant Molecular Cloud (GMC) identification problem based on cluster analysis. The method we designed, SCIMES (Spectral Clustering for Interstellar Molecular Emission Segmentation) considers the dendrogram of emission in

The chemistry within the interstellar medium (ISM) is notably influenced by the interplay between kinetics and photochemical processes, which play significant roles in both the formation and destruction of molecular species.

Abstract We report new measurements of high‐energy protons ejected by the sun during the May 2024 Ganon superstorm. Our observations were made by the Neutron Spectrometer (NS) on the Psyche spacecraft, which was located at a solar distance of approximately 2 AU and a Sun‐Earth‐Probe separation angle of 75°.

A Nest of Diffuse Interstellar Bands—Likely of Common Origin
Diffuse interstellar bands (DIBs) have been proposed to cluster into distinct “families” each potentially linked to a single carrier molecule. In our study, we focus on identifying such a family within the spectral range of approximately 4945–4990 Å ...

Effect of Supernovae on the Local Interstellar Material
A range of astronomical data indicates that ancient supernovae created the galactic environment of the Sun and sculpted the physical properties of the interstellar medium near the heliosphere.
