Effect of Pb exposure on the cells and matrix of the intervertebral disc of rats
Degenerative spine diseases are common throughout the world. There are many factors that lead to these diseases. One of these exogenous factors may be Pb exposure.

Inflammatory dysregulation drives intervertebral disc degeneration via stage‐dependent immune cellular dynamics. Single‐cell transcriptomics and genetic risk mapping revealed a shift from LCN2high myeloid‐derived suppressor cells maintaining disc repair in early stages to IL1B+ macrophage‐dominated pathology in advanced disease.

TWEAK and TSLP in disc degeneration and spontaneous hernia resorption
Spontaneous degeneration of an intervertebral disc is caused by inflammation that accompanies exposure of the avascular nucleus pulposus to circulation, triggering an autoimmune inflammatory reaction.

Morphometric Study of Lumbar Intervertebral Spaces (discs) by Using MRI.
Introduction: The radiological space between two vertebrae is known as intervertebral space (height) which corresponds to the thickness of the intervertebral disc.

Mechanical stress activates PIEZO1 in vertebral growth plate chondrocytes, triggering ferroptosis through direct binding and inhibition of GPX4. This axis promotes lipid peroxidation and pathological ossification, accelerating spinal deformities. Clinical and genetic evidence (Piezo1‐cKO) confirms its role in scoliosis progression.

This study describes the creation of injectable Brachyury (Bry) mRNA‐loaded Fucoidan‐functionalized GelMA hydrogel microspheres (BLNP@GF). These microspheres efficiently suppress inflammation, enhance extracellular matrix (ECM) synthesis in degenerated nucleus pulposus cells, and mitigate intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) in rat models.

Spatial and Diurnal Variations in Sodium Content Within Intervertebral Disc Tissue. [PDF]
Cycles of daily movement and nighttime relaxation create cycles in fixed charge density and tissue osmolarity in vivo. Previous measurements of these parameters have been limited by spatial resolution and an inability to measure in situ. This study develops and validates a novel application of laser ablation‐inductively coupled plasma‐mass spectrometry

Senescent nucleus pulposus cells drive inflammatory M1 macrophage polarization, exacerbating intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD). Conversely, M1 macrophages accelerate NP cell senescence, creating a vicious cycle. iPSCs‐derived mesenchymal stem cell (iMSCs) exosomes break this loop by delivering miR‐100‐5p to suppress mTORC1/glycolysis in ...
