Allogeneic fibroblasts ameliorate intervertebral disc degeneration by reducing osteophytes in rabbits

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine
IntroductionLow back pain (LBP) was commonly induced by intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD), which is accompanied by the loss of disc height and osteophyte generation.

Magnetic resonance imaging features of canine intradural/extramedullary intervertebral disc extrusion in seven cases

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science, 2022
Intervertebral disc disease, including intervertebral disc extrusions and protrusions, is the most common spinal cord disorder in dogs. Atypical and uncommon intervertebral disc herniations include intradural/intramedullary disc extrusion, intervertebral

Anterior-to-Posterior Migration of a Lumbar Disc Sequestration. Surgical Remarks and Technical Notes about a Tailored Microsurgical Discectomy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Extrusion of disc material within the spinal canal complicates up to 28.6% of lumbar disc herniations. Due to the anatomical "corridors" created by the anterior midline septum and lateral membranes, relocation occurs with an anterior and anterolateral ...

Hydrogel‐Based Functional Materials: Classifications, Properties, and Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Conductive hydrogels have emerged as promising materials for smart wearable devices due to their outstanding flexibility, multifunctionality, and biocompatibility. This review systematically summarizes recent progress in their design strategies, focusing on monomer systems and conductive components, and highlights key multifunctional properties such as

A case report of vacuum sign surgery for the inner recess of lumbar spinal canal

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Neurosurgery
The formation of intervertebral disc vacuum sign can be observed in late stage degenerative changes of the lumbar disc. In 1937, Magnusson first proposed intervertebral disc vacuum sign, which refers to the accumulation of gas caused by disc dehydration ...

Effect of Percutaneous Kyphoplasty on the progression of intervertebral disc degeneration: a retrospective cohort study

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research, 2023
Background The effect of percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP) or rather polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) on adjacent intervertebral discs is still controversial. The evidence from experimental study to clinical study presents bipolar conclusions.

Intervertebral disc disease in Dachshunds radiographically screened for intervertebral disc calcifications [PDF]

open access: yesActa Veterinaria Scandinavica, 2014
Intervertebral disc disease (IDD) is a very common neurological disease, Dachshunds being the breed most often affected. In this breed, IDD has a hereditary background and is associated with intervertebral disc calcification (IDC), an indicator of severe intervertebral disc degeneration.

Inhibition of Hypersialylation in Human Intervertebral Disc Degeneration Modulates Inflammation and Metabolism

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Glycosylation, specifically hypersialylation, is identified as a critical factor in human intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration—a major cause of low back pain. This study demonstrates that inhibiting sialylation reduces inflammation and oxidative stress in IVD tissues, suggesting new therapeutic possibilities.

Development of a whole organ culture model for intervertebral disc disease

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Translation, 2016
Background/Objective: Whole organ in vitro intervertebral disc models have been associated with poor maintenance of cell viability. No previous studies have used a rotating wall vessel bioreactor for intervertebral disc explants culture.
