Medicochirurgical description of patients operated on due to a diagnosis of lumbar disc herniation

open access: yesRevista Electrónica Dr. Zoilo E. Marinello Vidaurreta, 2018
Background: disc disease is a world health problem nowadays. The adequate application of the selection criteria for the patients with lumbar disc herniation and the performance of a sophisticated surgical technique are significant for getting good short ...

Rootlets-based registration to the spinal cord PAM50 template [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Spinal cord functional MRI studies require precise localization of spinal levels for reliable voxelwise group analyses. Traditional template-based registration of the spinal cord uses intervertebral discs for alignment. However, substantial anatomical variability across individuals exists between vertebral and spinal levels. This study proposes a novel

Diurnal Asymmetric Loading Modulates Cell Phenotype in Intervertebral Disc

open access: yesJOR SPINE, Volume 8, Issue 2, June 2025.
Dynamic loading followed by continuous static loading negatively modulates the phenotype of IVD cells in an organ culture model. Comparable to the free swelling treatment after dynamic loading, physical treatment to reduce the stress on the IVD, even temporarily, may help to prevent the acceleration of deformity and degeneration.

TNFα Receptor 1 and Not Receptor 2 Affect Annulus Fibrosus and Nucleus Pulposus Response to Cytokine Challenge in a Rat Model

open access: yesJOR SPINE, Volume 8, Issue 2, June 2025.
TNFα receptor‐specific signaling is important in rat IVDD in vivo and in vitro. TNFR1 inhibition was more effective with small molecules than with blocking antibodies. Low levels of TNFR2 in rat AF and NP cells, and the lack of efficacy of TNFR2‐activator Atsttrin, suggest that native AF and NP cells have little capacity for TNFR2‐dependent IVD repair.

Indentation toughness of Al2O3-CNT nanocomposites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In the last few years new ceramic/carbon nanotube composites have been developed and a number of authors have reported improved mechanical and functional properties in the case of ceramic/CNT composites compared to the monolithic materials.

Approaches to Managing Herniated Disc Surgical vs. Conservative Treatment

open access: yesQuality in Sport
Introduction Disc herniation is a displacement of an intervertebral disc, most often caused by degeneration of its outer layer, the annulus fibrosus.

In Vitro Validation of Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) as an Effective Countermeasure Against Inflammatory‐Mediated Intervertebral Disc Degeneration

open access: yesJOR SPINE, Volume 8, Issue 2, June 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration (IDD) is the main contributor to chronic low back pain (LBP), the leading cause of disability worldwide, with a significant impact on the quality of life and health of common people. The etiology of IDD is still unclear, but it has been largely demonstrated the crucial role of inflammation and ...

The Role of Adipokines in Spinal Disease: A Narrative Review

open access: yesJOR SPINE, Volume 8, Issue 2, June 2025.
Adipokines, bioactive molecules secreted by adipose tissue, play a key role in both physiological regulation and disease pathogenesis. While their involvement in various organ systems is well documented, their role in spinal pathology remains underexplored.
