Solute Transport Process in Intestinal Epithelial Cells

Membrane Biochemistry, 1979
In rat small intestine, the active transport of organic solutes results in significant depolarization of the membrane potential measured in an epithelial cell with respect to a grounded mucosal solution and in an increase in the transepithelial potential difference.

Epithelial Stem Cells and Tissue Engineered Intestine

Current Stem Cell Research & Therapy, 2006
The intestinal mucosa has an amazing regenerative capacity, enabling rapid restoration of its physiological functions following injury. The ability to do this resides with the epithelial stem cells located within glandular invaginations in the mucosal surface.

Effects of repetitive deformation on intestinal epithelial cells

Inflammopharmacology, 2007
The intestinal mucosa is subject to a variety of physical forces in a complex manner during normal gut function and in disease. Intestinal mucosal atrophy during some disease states is a troubling phenomenon that is only partially explained by nutritional parameters. Increasing evidence suggests the possibility that repetitive deformation engendered by

Epithelial cell migration in the intestine of the young mouse

Developmental Biology, 1968
Autoradiographs were made of sections of the duodenal region of the intestine from 3 stages of preweaning mice, sacrificed at intervals after injection of thymidine-3H. The results clearly show that significant cell migration does occur in the intestinal epithelium of the duodenum at stages when dramatic cytodifferentiative changes are taking place in ...

ISOLATION OF THE EPITHELIAL CELLS OF THE RAT SMALL INTESTINE

Canadian Journal of Biochemistry, 1966
A new method for the preparation of isolated intestinal epithelial cells from the rat is described. Suspensions of these cells respire actively, taking up oxygen in a linear relationship with time for about 40 minutes. When actively transported sugars are present in the incubation medium, the cells utilize more oxygen.
