ABL kinase‐dependent phosphorylation of SH proteins promotes their direct interaction with CRK family SH2 domains

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.

Natural history of intestinal failure, investigated through a network-based approach.

open access: yes, 2003
OBJECTIVES: Intestinal failure (IF) is a condition whose treatment requires advanced knowledge and techniques and a multidisciplinary approach. Intestinal failure is the endpoint of many intestinal diseases and may result in full recovery, in life-long ...

Plumbagin Prevents Secretory Diarrhea by Inhibiting CaCC and CFTR Channel Activities

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2019
Secretory diarrhea, which primarily originates through intestinal pathogens and viruses, is a health burden in many regions worldwide. Enterocyte Cl− channels, as the final step in enterotoxin-induced fluid secretion, constitute an attractive class of ...

Short-term intestinal ischemia-reperfusion alters intestinal motility that can be preserved by xanthine oxidase inhibition

open access: yes, 2002
While the effects of transient intestinal ischemia on mucosa have been well investigated, less is known about its effect on motor function. An experimental study was designed to investigate the effects of ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) on intestinal motility

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Pediatric intestinal pseudo-obstruction: Role of histopathology

open access: yesJournal of Pediatric Surgery Case Reports, 2020
Pediatric intestinal pseudo-obstruction (PIPO) is a rare and debilitating clinical disorder characterized by gastrointestinal motility dysfunction, resulting in symptoms suggestive of total or partial intestinal obstruction in the absence of any lumen ...

Microbiome‐blood–brain barrier interactions in aging — mechanisms and therapeutic potential

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Aging reshapes the gut microbiome (↓SCFA‐producing commensals; ↑pro‐inflammatory outputs), shifting circulating metabolites (↓SCFAs; ↑LPS, ↑TMAO, ↑PAA) that act at the BBB to increase nonspecific transcytosis, alter transport, and promote astrocyte reactivity, heightening brain vulnerability.

Structure‐forward targeting of claudins with synthetic binders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Claudins form the paracellular barriers between epithelial and endothelial tissues at tight junctions and are targets for molecular binders with the goal of modulating barrier permeability. Claudin‐binding molecules are relevant in drug delivery or in altering claudin interactions with disease‐causing proteins.
