Sonography detection of small intra-abdominal fat variations.
International journal of obesity, 1991The aim of this study was to check the reliability of sonography in measuring small variations in quantities of subcutaneous and intra-abdominal fat. Twenty-six obese women (BMI 39 +/- 6) underwent a 15 day very low calorie diet. The study included, both before and after very low calorie diet, computed tomography measurements of total (AT), visceral ...

Enhanced intra-abdominal visceral fat accumulation in patients with Werner's syndrome
International Journal of Obesity, 2001Studies were made on the abnormality of glucose and lipid metabolism and its cause in four patients with Werner's syndrome to infer the reason for accelerated atherogenesis in this syndrome.Of these four patients, hypercholesterolemia was found in three, hypertriglyceridemia in four, hypoalphalipoproteinemia in two and hypertension in two.

[Intra-abdominal visceral fat in myotonic dystrophy].
Rinsho shinkeigaku = Clinical neurology, 1993We first clarified the relationship between abdominal visceral fat accumulation and impaired glucose and lipid metabolism in patients with myotonic dystrophy. Nineteen patients aged 44.2 +/- 11.4 years with a body mass index (BMI) of 20.5 +/- 2.8 kg/m2, and 18 controls aged 45.2 +/- 10.3 years, with a BMI 20.0 +/- 2.8 kg/m2 were examined.

Abnormal fat: A useful marker of intra-abdominal disease at computed tomography
Clinical Radiology, 1984Computed tomography (CT) gives unique information about the margins of the intra-abdominal organs and the intervening fat and fascial planes. Not infrequently, these planes appear abnormal without any visible underlying cause. We present 85 patients in whom such an abnormality was shown.

Effect of gender on intra-abdominal fat in teenagers and young adults
Pediatric Radiology, 2010Adult men accumulate greater intra-abdominal fat (IAF) than adult women, a difference closely related to gender differences in cardiometabolic disease risk in the elderly. However, the time when this gender difference appears is a matter of controversy. We examine the influence of gender on IAF deposition in lean, overweight and obese teenagers and ...

Total and intra-abdominal fat measurements by ultrasound and computerized tomography.
International journal of obesity and related metabolic disorders : journal of the International Association for the Study of Obesity, 1993Computerized tomography, a method of proven reliability for direct measurement of both total and visceral body fat, is not widely usable and alternative means of assessing body fat are required. Several anthropometric parameters, including ultrasound measurements of intra-abdominal and subcutaneous fat, were considered in 119 females (age 15-72 years ...
