Allogeneic Stem Cells Alter Gene Expression and Improve Healing of Distal Limb Wounds in Horses. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Distal extremity wounds are a significant clinical problem in horses and humans and may benefit from mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) therapy. This study evaluated the effects of direct wound treatment with allogeneic stem cells, in terms of gross, histologic,

Skin Reaction to Intradermal Injection of Rare Earths [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1963
THE availability of highly purified rare earths, elements 21 and 58–71, has stimulated interest in their chemical and physical properties1. Haley et al.2–6 have examined their biological effects and reported that although they can produce non-specific liver damage they exert their greatest toxicity on the ocular and dermal tissues.

Characterization of an Injectable Poly(vinyl alcohol)‐gelatin Hydrogel for Growth Factor Delivery in an Orthopedic Application

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces photo‐crosslinkable tyraminated poly(vinyl alcohol)‐gelatin (PVA‐GT) hydrogels as tunable injectable platforms for tissue engineering and growth factor delivery applications. This schematic illustrates the two developed hydrogel formulations and the experimental workflow used to evaluate their physico‐chemical properties in vitro ...

Distribution and Excretion of TEGDMA in Guinea Pigs and Mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The monomer triethyleneglycoldimethacrylate (TEGDMA) is used as a diluent in many resin-based dental materials. It was previously shown in vitro that TEGDMA was released into the adjacent biophase from such materials during the first days after placement.

Plant‐Produced Viral Nanoparticles Decorated with Nanobodies Against HER2 Improve Retention and Recruitment of Immune Cells in Solid Tumors

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Potato virus X is a filamentous RNA plant virus that can be engineered into a molecular tool for cancer therapy. We produced genetically‐encoded virus‐derived nanoparticles decorated with nanobodies targeting cancer cell receptors, epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and human epidermal growth factor 2 (HER2).

Expression of the inhibitory Ly49E receptor is not critically involved in the immune response against cutaneous, pulmonary or liver tumours [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Natural killer (NK) lymphocytes are part of the innate immune system and are important in immune protection against tumourigenesis. NK cells display a broad repertoire of activating and inhibitory cell surface receptors that regulate NK cell activity ...

Intradermal injection for hiccup therapy in the Emergency Department

open access: yesThe American Journal of Emergency Medicine, 2020
Hiccup is a condition caused by involuntary contraction of inspiratory muscles, especially the diaphragm. Although it is generally considered as a physiological. response, if hiccup persists for a long time, it can lead to many undesirable conditions such as depression, weight loss, insomnia, and fatigue.

3D Soft Hydrogels Induce Human Mesenchymal Stem Cells “Deep” Quiescence

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Three‐dimensional soft hydrogels mimicking the bone marrow niche induce deep quiescence in human mesenchymal stem cells. Unlike 2D culture, 3D matrices halt proliferation, regulate cell‐cycle and quiescence markers, and downregulate mTORC1 signaling, preserving stem cell phenotype and therapeutic potential ex vivo.

pFAR plasmids: New Eukaryotic Expression Vectors for Gene Therapy, devoid of Antibiotic Resistance Markers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Efficient production of eukaryotic expression vectors requires the selection of plasmid-containing bacteria. To avoid the risk of dissemination of antibiotic resistance markers, we developed a new system to produce a family of plasmids Free of Antibiotic
