ABSTRACT This study explored fasting‐induced physiological remodeling effects on meat quality in aged laying hens. Fasting for 15 days (F15) significantly reduced abdominal fat, intermuscular fat width, subcutaneous fat thickness, and liver index versus pre‐fasting (F0) (p < 0.05), which recovered post‐refeeding.

Effects of added Zn in diets with Ractopamine HCl on growth performance and carcass quality of finishing pigs in a commercial environment [PDF]
The experiment was conducted in a commercial facility to determine the effects of added Zn on the performance of finishing pigs fed Ractopamine HCl (RAC; Paylean®; Elanco Animal Health, Greenfield, IN). Pigs were randomly assigned to pens based on gender

Random regression of Hereford percentage intramuscular fat on geographical coordinates [PDF]
Abstract Accounting for genotype–environment interactions may improve genetic prediction and parameter estimation. The objective was to use random regression analyses to estimate variances and thereby heritability for intramuscular fat (IMF) across longitude and latitude coordinates within the continental United States.

This study identified a molecule named lncRSFD, which is highly expressed in sheep adipose tissues. The lncRSFD gene generates two distinct transcript variants via alternative splicing: lncRSFD‐L and lncRSFD‐S. Functionally, lncRSFD alternative splicing (lncRSFD‐L/S) promotes the proliferation, differentiation, and lipid metabolism of adipocytes ...

Economic Analysis of Increased Levels of Intramuscular Fat in Pork: Producer and Industry Opportunities [PDF]
Ultrasound technology is available for accurately measuring intramuscular fat (IMF) in live pigs. This report provides information on the costs for pig producers and processors to implement this technology and what consumers are willing to pay for pork ...

Associations of Perirenal Fat Thickness with Renal and Systemic Calcified Atherosclerosis. [PDF]
BackgroundWe investigated associations between perirenal fat thickness and atherosclerotic calcification in six different vascular beds.MethodsUsing a community-based cohort (n=3,919), perirenal fat thickness was estimated from computed tomography scans.

Improved recovery from prolonged exercise following the consumption of low glycemic index carbohydrate meals [PDF]
The present study examined the effects of the glycemic index (GI) of post-exercise carbohydrate (CHO) intake on endurance capacity and the metabolic responses during exercise the following day. Nine active males participated in two trials in a randomised

Schematic diagram illustrating how miR‐222 promotes bovine intramuscular adipogenesis by targeting DDIT4 to activate the mTORC1 signaling pathway. ABSTRACT Intramuscular fat (IMF) is a key determinant of beef quality, particularly with respect to tenderness, flavor, and juiciness.
