Intrinsic Instability of BOK Enables Membrane Permeabilization in Apoptosis. [PDF]

open access: yesCell Rep, 2018
The effector B cell lymphoma-2 (BCL-2) protein BCL-2 ovarian killer (BOK) induces mitochondrial outer membrane permeabilization (MOMP) to initiate apoptosis upon inhibition of the proteasome. How BOK mediates MOMP is mechanistically unknown. The NMR structure of the BCL-2 core of human BOK reveals a conserved architecture with an atypical hydrophobic ...

Soft Tissue Stabilization of Midcarpal Instability in Ehlers–Danlos Patients Using a Cadaveric Tendon Graft [PDF]

open access: yesPlastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Global Open
Summary:. Ehlers–Danlos syndrome (EDS) is a group of hereditary disorders that affects collagen synthesis. In the wrist, pain and midcarpal laxity may affect up to 70% of EDS patients.

Genome instability and crosstalk with the immune response [PDF]

open access: yesGenome Medicine
Genome instability, tumour-promoting inflammation, and immune escape are three distinct hallmarks of cancer. However, accumulating scientific and clinical evidence over the past decade have uncovered a multifaceted interplay of complex dynamic network of

Dynamic behavior and flame acceleration of spherically expanding hydrogen flames under the low-pressure conditions

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2023
To investigate the dynamic behavior and flame acceleration of spherically expanding hydrogen flames under the low-pressure conditions, the deflagration experiments were conducted in a closed combustion chamber. The dynamic behavior of hydrogen flames was

The effects of addition of carbon dioxide and water vapor on the dynamic behavior of spherically expanding hydrogen/air premixed flames

open access: yesJournal of Thermal Science and Technology, 2021
Utilizing efficiently and securely hydrogen as clean energy source, it is required not only to analyze the experimental data under a certain condition but also to create the mathematical model for the prediction of flame propagation velocity under ...

INTRINSIC INSTABILITY OF CORONAL STREAMERS [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2009
Plasma blobs are observed to be weak density enhancements as radially stretched structures emerging from the cusps of quiescent coronal streamers. In this paper, it is suggested that the formation of blobs is a consequence of an intrinsic instability of coronal streamers occurring at a very localized region around the cusp.

Effects of pressure and heat loss on the unstable motion of cellular-flame fronts caused by intrinsic instability in hydrogen-air lean premixed flames

open access: yesJournal of Thermal Science and Technology, 2021
Effects of pressure and heat loss on the unstable motion of cellular-flame fronts in hydrogen-air lean premixed flames were numerically investigated. We adopted the reaction mechanism for hydrogen-oxygen combustion, modeled with seventeen reversible ...

The shape and fluctuation of hydrogen-propane-butane-air lean premixed flames formed on a flat flame burner

open access: yesJournal of Thermal Science and Technology, 2021
In this paper, the characteristics of hydrogen-propane-butane-air lean premixed flames on a flat flame burner were experimentally studied. To elucidate the shape and fluctuation of premixed flames, the cell width, RMS of fluctuation, peak frequency and ...

Chromosomal Instability Confers Intrinsic Multidrug Resistance [PDF]

open access: yesCancer Research, 2011
Abstract Aneuploidy is associated with poor prognosis in solid tumors. Spontaneous chromosome missegregation events in aneuploid cells promote chromosomal instability (CIN) that may contribute to the acquisition of multidrug resistance in vitro and heighten risk for tumor relapse in animal models.

Intrinsic Instability of Aberration-Corrected Electron Microscopes [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2012
Aberration-corrected microscopes with sub-atomic resolution will impact broad areas of science and technology. However, the experimentally observed lifetime of the corrected state is just a few minutes. Here we show that the corrected state is intrinsically unstable; the higher its quality, the more unstable it is.
