Instability of lean H2-O2-CO2 premixed flames on a flat burner

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2015
Global warming and air pollution mainly caused by emissions of CO2 and NOx are serious problems. We focus on a lean H2-O2 premixed flame because H2-O2 premixed flame emits no CO2 and NOx.

Machine-learning predicts genomic determinants of meiosis-driven structural variation in a eukaryotic pathogen

open access: yesNature Communications, 2021
Structural variation in genomes of the same species is frequent but what drives the rearrangements remains unclear. Machine-learning of rearrangement patterns among telomere-to-telomere assemblies can accurately identify regions of intrinsic DNA ...

Intrinsic instabilities in Fermi glasses

open access: yesPhysical Review B
We study in this paper the effect of weak, short-ranged interaction on disordered metals. Through analysing the interaction matrix elements between different eigenstates of the non-interacting and corresponding Hartree-Fock single-particle Hamiltonian, we argue that as a result of localized single-particle eigenstates around the Fermi surface, the ...

The Yih Instability in Layered Lava Flow May Initiate the Pāhoehoe to ‘a‘ā Lava Transition

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2023
Most basaltic lavas begin flowing as pāhoehoe but sometimes transition into ‘a‘ā. Field observations and previous models have demonstrated that the rheology of smooth, liquid‐like pāhoehoe is distinct from rough, pasty ‘a‘ā, but the cause of this ...

Effects of oxygen enrichment and hydrogen addition on the instability of biogas-air premixed flames formed on a flat burner

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2023
This study focused on the biogas-air premixed flames formed on a flat burner under the conditions of oxygen enrichment and hydrogen addition to improve the combustion characteristics of biogas-air premixtures.

Alu elements: an intrinsic source of human genome instability [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Opinion in Virology, 2013
Alu elements are ∼300bp sequences that have amplified via an RNA intermediate leading to the accumulation of over 1 million copies in the human genome. Although a few of the copies are active, Alu germline activity is the highest of all human retrotransposons and does significantly contribute to genetic disease and population diversity.

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

The microbiome in human skin aging

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐related skin changes encompass the well‐known visible phenotypic alterations, together with microbiome dysbiosis and a series of molecular aging hallmarks. These hallmarks characterize not only a fully stablished aged phenotype but also the skin aging process itself.

Magnetohydrodynamic instability in plasmas with intrinsic magnetization

open access: yesPhysics of Plasmas, 2010
From a magnetofluid description with intrinsic magnetization, a new plasma instability is obtained. The plasma magnetization is produced by the collective electron spin. The instability develops in a nonuniform plasma when the electron concentration and temperature vary along an externally applied magnetic field.
